I purchased an ARB twin compressor and am pretty sure that I want to mount it in one of the storage compartments in the rear seat of my extra cab ‘04. My two hesitations with that location are lack of airflow for cooling and in cab noise during inflating operations. I’ve never heard one run and I’m not sure how hot they get/how hot they have to be before they shut down. Any one have any experience with this mounting location, or other locations mounting in the cab?

I personally had tried a single arb compressor in the big compartment and it was ear bleeding loud. I then made a mount and put it on my firewall with the help of rivet nuts. It's nice to not have anything in my cab and the extra room for other equipment and tools is great!

Good feedback. I thought that would be a good location, because I don’t store anything under there that I regularly have to get to. I might just have to hook it up and see if I can deal with the noise or if I should move it into the bed. Trying to keep it relatively clean/out of the weather since it’s such a spendy unit.

Compressing anything creates heat in a enclosed area like that unless you plan to open the access when in use .

Depending on just how much air you will need quite possible to burn out the motor or have it trip any thermal overloads to the point they no longer close and need replaced.

Then you might be just fine without a lot more number crunching who can say .

Of course it creates heat. The real question is, does it create more heat than having it sit under the hood of a running pickup in the sun on a 100 degree day. I understand what the restrictions might be. I am asking if anyone has done it and been successful in not having it overheat.

Mine is obnoxious under the hood, I wouldn't want it in the cab. I'd consider putting it in an ammo can or similar in the bed

If its under the hood either way you have to open the hood so it has plenty of airflow. All I know is my little single compressor got pretty stinkin hot in that little cubby. I can't imagine a double would produce any less heat.

I also tried the bed but I use my truck for lumber and construction so it often got hit by items and I hated it getting damaged!

My plan is to run an air chuck on the front bumper, so I don’t have to open the hood! Almost caused an accident when someone stopped in the road to ask if I was alright while I was airing up my tires because my hood was up. It’s also just kind of annoying when every other car stops to ask if you’re alright. People in Idaho are TOO nice sometimes.

That is the battle! This truck is slowly getting retired from those duties, but the bed is still an inhospitable place at times.

I’ll mess around with it a little bit today and maybe even hook a battery to it and pump up some tires. This thread will probably be dead for a little while though. Headed back to work Saturday, so the final install won’t be until after I get back from work around the 1st weekend in April.

I suggest mounting under the hood. These get extremely warm while in use.
I was told by ARB USA that extending the ARB wiring loom adds to the heat and could possibly melt the loom or portions of it... I didn't listen and it did just that.

Here is where I mounted mine:

That's the exact location I mounted mine and the manifold

Nice... I did this years ago and all is well.
I did speak to an ARB rep at SEMA some years back about the braided line supplied with their manifold kit. Turns out that the inside diameter was too small and the compressor created too much heat along with cold air and began rusting the inside of that line... making the inside diameter smaller which made the compressor run longer.
I went with a larger diameter line... it fills my sliders and Viair tank quickly now and shuts off much sooner.

Little bit of this and a little bit of that but stock af.
I have my twin compressor under the hood. Also pulled a line and put a chuck in the bed cubby storage. One question I have is when changing the spark plugs do you need to remove the compressor?

If you're asking me, no. I have the ever so powerful 3RZ motor.
I did run a line from the manifold to a 2012 Peterbilt fan clutch switch, then to my DS slider. Both sliders now hold air along with a 2.5 gallon Viair tank... then to the ARB fitting behind the fuel door.
Keeps the fitting clean and out of the weather.

I just realized I was in the wrong gen. Seems like you guys have a lot more room, mine fits but is super tight. I would assume I would have to remove my compressor to do plug maintenance. Here’s some pics....
