something to ponder, everyone has a different definition of 'vibration' So we can't say that his truck has an issue or he is just very particular about every little bump/noise.

The OP drove 2 different trucks and found the same vibration.

At this point, it's not a defect with his particular truck, but rather he doesn't like the way the truck drives.

 

Hmmm... no. the technician felt the vibration, the field service tech felt the vibration.. me and my wife both felt the vibration. Not a bump in the road, it's freshly redone asphalt. Yes, the vibrations were felt in two other trucks built and delivered to that dealership Dec of 2013. possibly an issue during dec 2013. I invite you to come on over and drive it, for $30K it should not vibrate like this. Do you work for Toyota?

 

For some reason, people defend the manufacturer, I don't get it.. If this truck didn't vibrate, like it does.. we were planning on keeping it till the wheels fell off!

I just don't get why anybody would defend the manufacturer, unless they worked for them or they were total mindless fanboys.

I get that not everybody is experiencing the same problems we are, some people are, but the fact is, Toyota, like many other manufacturers push product out the door with defects and expect us to accept it as a gift! It's not! I work hard and should not have to take a $5k loss to move on so they can continue to steamroll the public.

Haven't given it thought much thought. We wanted a compact truck, didn't like everything (small issues) about the Frontier.. not too many choices though. We bought new hoping to avoid any mechanical issues associated with used vehicles, cuase new vehicles are less prone to them, not.

Ok, after talking with the Attorney I know and getting the reality speech..

I decided to try a couple more things to cure the vibration issues. A couple people have made recommendation regarding the carrier bearing. Changing the orientation, shimming, shifting it from one side to the other, filing the void with silicone.. which I did research on the ol' interweb and found several people have achieved success ridding/reducing their vehicles of driveline vibration. I went a step further and tried silicone, polyurethane shore 60A and shore 40A.
It did not work for the Tacoma.. er, my Tacoma. The silicone was the most pliable, the polyurethane 40A was like a dense pencil eraser and the 60A was about the density of tire rubber. They all transmitted vibrations. The silicone was a bit worse than the std. unmodified CB. The Shore 60A was really rough, very noisy, transmitted a lot of noise into the cab.. I don't think it allowed for too much lateral movement of the DS with suspension compression and off loading.
The polyurethane Shore 40A was not as bad as the 60A, but still not a fix. So, 4 carrier bearings ruined.. one not mentioned above due to the "silicone" not fully curing due to the thickness and poor selection of material on my part.
After lots of research, I figured a 1 piece aluminum DS was the last and probably the best option. The 2 piece DS that was in the truck was trued and balanced by a DS company in Nashville, TN. but I didn't really like his welds and don't think he can do a high speed balance.
The shop I used Action Machine located in South Bend, Indiana. The gentleman I worked with is Bob Guzman, super nice guy. Rather than taking a bunch of different measurements of the yoke, spline, flange etc. I decided to send in my yoke and flange for the build, then there was only one measurement to take, DS center of cap to center of cap.. 71" and it was a bit cheaper.. less than $400 shipped

Kind of a long winded explanation, but there you have it.. and here is the completed DS prior to shipping. 4" X 71" .125 thick 6061 DOM aluminum, kinda pretty too!

I should receive it Tuesday..

Me too! I really like almost everything about the truck, if the DS takes care of the bad vibes, I can have the seats modified (minor) and it will be a keeper..
