The only thing weak on my tundra is the tires with 595hp at the wheels...

I have a 3rd Gen Tacoma and previously owned a 5.7 tundra and the power in the tundra is far superior. However, I have not driven the small V8. I'd imagine it would dissapoint after driving the big brother.

I love the 5.7 its in my 2018 land cruiser , I have had 4 Tundras up until my 2016 Platinum crew max and got tired of the frame flex .
So went and drove the 2016 GMC 2500/ 3500 Single rear wheel truck . Lets just say the trundra is a great 1/2 ton truck , not to say weak but that frame flex just drove me crazy especially with a good load .
Toyota Tundra blows the 1/2 ton GM products away they have nothing but problems , The F-150 is a better truck in my opinion .
Toyota has not kept up pace .
I have had the 2016 GMC 3500 SRW denali diesel for the past going on 3 years , I looked at the gas and choose the LML diesel , not as fast as the 5.7 tundra but is very similar in many ways of the cab controls lay out .
I usually rototate trucks every 3yrs and I am not impressed with any trucks out there , I was hoping a new diesel trundra would appear , does not seem to be the case .
My 3 other vehicles are Toyota 4Runner , land cruiser and a 4 banger Taco are all great .
I would not say weak just fallen behind .

You want weak, go drive a G1 Tundra with a 3.4. The 4.6 will feel like a rocket ship after that

Secondary Air Injection Pump. You have to shut that down, bypass it. Easy to do email slyfox75@gmail.com for the kit

What's the intended purpose from Toyota for it and what's the mod do to improve the truck?

It's part of the emissions system. That brief 'whoosh' vacuum cleaner like sound you hear at startup? That's the SAIP. It's a well-known flaw on the 4.7l's. What eventually happens is the valves get stuck open, you get some codes and the truck goes into limp mode. Here's the thread that explains it all - TLDR version is contact slyfox75, he'll ship a bypass kit to you for $60. 15 minute install. Just do it and save yourself from future problems.
