not to many, love it the way it is
I think the main issue with letting the fuel get to low in the tank and possibly causing pre-mature fuel pump failure (the pump relies on the liquid -gas- it is submerged in and pumping through it to keep it cool and happy) is that when the gas is low and you are driving the gas is sloshing/ moving around in the tank and the pump may not always be submerged (cooled) entirely during the sloshing process.

letting the gas run out completely is obviously a (fuel pump failure practice) but letting fuel level get really low in the tank possibly causing a hotter than usual fuel pump still is a questionable practice... better to be full of fuel than low on fuel, this applies to most things in life yes?

That just means you still had 2 gallons of fuel when you filled...this isn't rocket science.

Fuel pump is cooled by the fuel flowing through it. It doesn't matter what the gas is doing on the outside of the pump.

Seriously!! Next time run out of gas and push it to the pump if you think what you put in is the same as how big the tank is! Then we will believe you!

    Clazzio seat covers,
Take a look at this: http://www.toyota.com/tacoma/specs.html

Myself, as others have experienced, find that I take on about 17.5 gallons when the light comes on.

Not to say that you're wrong .... I love the internet.
