Are the stock Wrangler tires that come on the TRD OR any good for off road use?

    I'm a newbie in the world of off-roading, so I'm not going out there dumping money at upgrading parts left and right, but I believe the above statement rings true in many hobbies an skillsets.

    The Baja Boss are on. They handle better on dry road than expected and much better on wet road than expected. For anyone who is worried about wet road handling based on the Tire Rack testing, dont be.

    Ive been using the wranglers. They work fine for the most part. Only time ive had issues so far was in deep snow up hill

    Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
    I blew 2 of the stock wranglers on my first off road trip when I bought my Taco. First day, 2 tires gone. Was not impressed. One tore right through the sidewall.

    Since then, I have had 2 sets of Goodrich KO2s. The first set went 40K miles and I sold them to a used tire store, and got $80 per tire. Not bad for tires that saw over 100 hard off road trips. They do get pretty noisy at 40K miles. Or it might have been just from the conditions, as 2 tires were out of round by then which indicates internal damage. Not surprising considering how they are abused.

    I am on my second set of KO2s now. Never a flat or puncture despite lots of very harsh off road. I am retired, and spend all of my free time exploring to find remote fishing lakes in BC. So a lot of deactivated FSR trails and ATV trails. A lot of very bad rocky conditions. Off road, I seldom get over 10mph due to road conditions, and a lot of time in 1st gear 4-lo due to the conditions.

    Lose the wranglers now if you will be using them on rocky trails.

    I kept my stock tires on just so I could make mistakes and do stupid stuff with them while I decided what I wanted from an actual tire. By 35K they had numerous chunks missing and been patched twice, so while I think they are fine for general use it was obvious to me they weren't going to hold up to what I was doing off pavement. On the other hand, my friend who drives mostly forest service roads and highway miles has gotten over 50K out of his so far and they're in better condition than mine still, so definitely depends on type of driving.
