That's a pretty good price...I paid 28990 last year (Oct 09) for a 2010 Sport Double Cab...out the door including taxes tags etc. I got a $1000 rebate for my grad degree I recently earned.

I would recommend building your Tacoma on the Toyota website. Ask for a quote and check off any and all of the closest Toyota dealers. That's what I did and I got 4 responses...3 said come in and talk (yeah right:rolleyes:) and I received a quote like the one above from the 4th. It was the best offer I received.

Also, check out this website http://www.carbuyingtips.com/download.htm
I used the excel download...with a little research online, you can go in armed with lots of info. A lot of times, dealers that realize you know your stuff will sell you the car without a lot of hassle.

    Good luck!

I've had good luck lining up a few by phone and you can get the dealers working against each other.

This is the way I bought my '08. Everything in writing ahead of time so that the salesman can't get tricky with the numbers later. I don't understand why anyone would do it any other way.

Go into the dealership armed with information as others have said. You will easily knock 2k off the MSRP without trying very hard.

    I went in to trade a 2008 Unlimited Rubicon(33k miles) for a 2011 DC 4x4.

First offer: $22K for the trade and MSRP on the truck was around $31.5K

3 offers and 1hr later: $24.75K for the trade and $29k for the truck.

I think I could have done a little better by shopping dealerships out but it was the end of the month in December during Toyotathon. So they are meeting numbers for the month and for the year. Plus this dealership is 5 miles from my house.

Be patient. Have a number in your head of what you will accept and dont blow your budget.

    Good Luck.

As everyone else said make sure you have researched and have data on what you want and how much it cost. Overstock.com has a car buying service where you can get a price from them and there is some contract foo that the dealership is suppose to give it to you for that price. They are usually pretty good. Also Toyota is still in the dog house in perception so they are still cutting deals to move vehicles, so know that JD Powers report listing them behind Ford will also have so push.

Here is the overstock link to play with.

Got my 09 Prerunner AC SR5 (AT) for 21k with no trade in. Brand new, they had to order it in fact (could have gotten one for less but I wanted Pyrite Mica :p )

Played a few dealers against each other, had quotes, made up lesser numbers over the phone, etc. I even threatened to call in a chargeback (used my CC but never signed anything) on my "deposit" I made. I thought it was fun.

After a lot of research and 3 months of deciding what I wanted, I had to drive 80 miles away to get what I wanted in my taco. I did buy it used from the dealer (a 2006 in 2008) MSRP was $28,999 I got my baby out the door for $22,385.

Truecar is agreat site for any car but a Toyota..LOL Toyota sells their cars to distributors who resell them . So the sticker price is set buy the DISTRIBUTOR and not Toyota in the Southeast. You will see $299 for TRD mats, $299 for Tint, $599 for toyoGuard (mop n Glow)... ON THE STICKER..we are not talking addendum sticker here but the Monroney
    Sticker!!!

Truecar has no way of "knowing whats on the sticker in the regions. So the sticker doesn;t match up. I was getting quotes well above Truecar and all were still $800 BELOW invoice.... When i saw the extra $1200 on the sticker above Truecar;s "sticker price" I knew what was going on.

Needless to say I passed on buying new on principle (and I don't like taking the depreciation hit of the first 100 miles).

Truecar is great for about every other Brand though as their sticker prices are pretty much the same across the country (except maybe in wacky California where you need special environmental crap)

Invoice is usually good and $800 under invoice is the deals I saw. I just did not like where SET had invoice because of the crap added.

Got mine in 2008, so it's been awhile. Got it for 19,500 + TTL. I just went in to the dealership and told them to show me the dealer cost. 2 dealerships told me no so I walked out the door. When I found a dealership to show it to me in a print out, I told them I'll give you 2% over dealer cost and drove out 2 hours later with a new truck. No haggling, no bullshit.

If they wont lower the price any further and you think its still not a good deal. Just walk out. Surly they will call you in a few hours to try to get you to come back in. My mom brought her rav4 that way and it does took her around 2 weeks tho. If you have patient you'll surly get a good deal.

Hell she walked in not knowing how much the rav4 might cost and she told me -3000 from the sticker is a good price.

    .

Yep, SET is always an except to the regional pricing rule.

SET is a powerhouse. Before Jim Moran (SET founder) died ... it was rumored that Toyota Corp. (Japan) offer him ... $1 Billion USDs ... to sell out.

That value ($1 Billion USDs) was at the peak of Toyota's success too.

FWIW ... I got a chance meet Moran and go on his boat back in the mid 1990s ... he was a very tough business with family ties that go way back to some rough days ...
