Actually, read down to the nice little color chart 1/4th of the way down. You don't even have to read. I know its hard sometimes to scroll down a website.

yankees that move to the south. termed originated post civil war. . . wake county has a booming business sector and lots of northerners have moved there in the past 20 years. theyve progressively started to work their way into our local and state political system. doesn't make a lot of people happy.

kind of like how actors seem to get a much louder voice in california than the people who have lived there for years and years. same concept.

hey, i have an idea...lets sue somebody because they didn't go OUT OF THEIR WAY to ACCOMMODATE us.... fuxn christ.

This PC bull crap is ruining America. they didnt even have to notify them in writing. All they needed to do was to call. When i go to another county that doesn't speak English, i get someone to translate, like when i speak with my father in law. If you come to America, and KNOW that the majority language (its in movies, law, signs, and on keyboards for Christs sake) either speak it(it doesn't have to be fluent either) get an interpreter or gtfo

How about this site? Go down to statute 145-12. Says NC adopted English as language in 1987. Is that better for you? Independent states have the right to choose what language they want as the official language. At least the US government has something right... leaving SOME rights up to the individual state.

wooah kemosabe, take a breather. not trying to get things too heated. im not worried about what a states official language is, was just referring to the federal bit.

honestly i could care less about any of it. i love mexicans. love working with them, their food, their hospitality, etc. ive never been one to bitch about what language should be here and there. we're a country of immigrants. my stance on language barriers is if you have an issue with what language someone is speaking, ignore it or learn it. that's what i try. im not fluent by any means in spanish, but i can't ignore the fact that in 20+ years there will be many many spanish speaking residents in my state. so ive taken spanish classes and study it in my free time occasionally.

I grew up in Oregon and worked with a lot of the Mexican's out in the fields. I do like a lot of their culture, and that the ones I did know attempted the language. It's when they won't learn the language and then try to pretend like they don't understand that pisses me off. I know spanish fluently from working with them, and going to Spain enough times. I just think it is time that the US adopts a "you will learn it, or receive nothing" act. My great grandparents came over from Germany in 1920 after the first WW. Immediately they learned English. My grandfather was born here and was told from the beginning that he would never speak the German language as long as his parents were alive. I still agree with that to this day. When I go to a foreign country (which I do often) I attempt to learn as much as I can to attempt to converse with the locals.

With my main point though, I was just trying to point out the fact that individual states can make their own laws regarding language. There is nowhere that states the individual state has to provide anything in the parents native language for them. So, your parents speak spanish but you received a letter in English? Better have the student read it to you then. So, they have no leg to stand on for a lawsuit.

why would that be? education systems are tightly integrated with federal law. I'm no expert, but I'm sure a persistent lawyer could get this escalated to the federal level and then they have plenty of legs to stand on.

it's just like the CA medical marijuana law .. CA law says you are perfectly legal, but the DEA can still come knocking on your door and throw that little 'recommendation' out the window.

until you have cooperation between the state and fed, these issues will be tried in court without much hassle.

EDIT: federal law still mandates multi-lingual communication in areas that are known to have high population of non-english speaking people, regardless of local state law
