There should be another one somewhere that you can talk into and hear on the other end. Like the old tin can and string walkie talkie

 

It's a tin can with a string basically. On the other side of the playground there should be one just like it so that you can talk to each other like a telephone

That's what my wife thought but we couldn't find another one.
