OK, I can respect that view. However, I think you may be underestimating the number of cancer patients we have in this country, and most are or have been on chemo at sometime in their treatment.

Asking them to come to the hospital and stay throughout the chemo treatment is unrealistic. Many patients abandon chemo feeling the cure is worse than dying and do in fact die as a result. Not saying chemo can or will save everybody but for many its their best chance for survival many times.

Don't know about you but if I was told I can take a treatment that may save me but not 100% guranteed, only catch is inorder to be able to tolerate it I must stay in a hospital throughout entire treatment keeping in mind these may be my last days. I might say screw it & stay home with my family spending those few prescious hours in the comfort of my home with people who love me.

IMO thats a choice no one should have to make, again I have a much different perspective than most due to career path I have chosen, I think if those who feel so strongly against the use for medicinal purposes could see what I have they may feel the same as I do.

I'll be voting YES. I'm a libertarian and as long as you aren't hurting anyone else or infringing on anyone else's' rights, go for it. It's just a plant for Christ's sake.

Just read some of the law and as it is written, there is no way I will vote yes for this. Because it allows individuals to cultivate their own plants (up to 12 of them). This is not about medical consumption as much as it is about getting high with this provision.

Yes pot may help those that need it, but right now it's illegal in most states. So if responsible individuals want to see this legalized then we have to move in that direction slowly and teach responsibility. But as I mentioned this current bill is one giant leap that I'm not prepared to make or condone.

On this debate, I always have to say, c'mon guys, cut the shit. If you want marijuana legalized, fair enough, but be real about it. Almost everyone that wants legalized marijuana really doesn't care about cancer patients, they want legal pot. If all they wanted was to help sick people, californians wouldn't be pushing for further legalization, since they can already get it medically.

OK, that's fine, I'm not for legalization, but in any event, call it what it is.

I mean honestly, stop and look at the drugs that are legal for us and the most commonly used...Booz and Tobacco...anyone else here think that the Government uses these items as population control?...cause I sure as hell do! I mean why kick up a fuss over a little plant that has statistically shown to be less harmfful than most other legal drugs

Well I don't smoke pot or use illegal drugs what I do is work in health care & see this stuff everyday. So don't tell me I don't care about people if I didn't I could be making allot more money, pushing pills as a Drug Rep than I make caring for cancer patients. I hope someone you care about never has to suffer like that.

x2...I work at a hospital as well and see people with some shit I wouldn't wish on my worse enemy...if it can help them in a safer manner then why not?! It is literally ridiculous that Pot isn't legal! It grows from the ground and you don't have to alter its state to achieve side effects! I'm gonna tell ya right now, I've seen how dangerous a drunk can be! Matter a fact, my friend back in High School was hit and killed by a drunk driver! I don't hear about to many Pot related deaths, you know why? Cause those people are sittin at home staring at the fridge or taking a nap!!!

There's a couple things at work here nobody's mentioned:

1.) If you legalize marijuana, you have to regulate marijuana. Suddenly it falls into jurisdiction of the FDA, and if you want to track the taxes on it, you need to develop a system of doing so. Not to mention legalization brings about another annoying little side effect -- lawsuits. If you make it legal, people can sue over all sorts of shit. Once you add all this up, the states are no longer making that huge windfall of tax money.

2.) Studies have shown that in other countries, the legalization of drugs has led to an immediate increase in usage, followed by an eventual decrease in overall population usage once the novelty effect has worn off. However, these same research institutes predict that the legalization of marijuana in the United States would spike immediately and continue to climb. Why, you may ask? Because unlike other cultures, American philosophies are more inclined to develop addictive habits. Furthermore, these same studies show that a legalization of marijuana would lead to an increase in "harder" drugs, such as heroin and cocaine, for the same reasons.

Now, what does this mean? I dunno.:notsure:

For what it's worth, I don't really give a crap one way or another. Just tryin' to drop some knowledges...

I couldn't agree with tegdog anymore on this subject. Masada... I have a friend who never smokes marijuana. His Dad on the other hand has smoked marijuana for years because he used to pour concrete in Chicago and has terrible back problems. He has said many times to people who asks him why and he says it's been the best relief he has tried. He's about 65 mind you so he's not looking to get "high". Does this make him worse than my Aunt who has a medicine cabinet full of legal drugs that can have far worst effects?

Also -- Colt and Teg, I'm with you guys on the medicinal uses. Unfortunately, there will always be people who abuse the system, but I think that's a small price to pay for the comfort and quality of life of someone suffering through debilitating illness.

No sir, and Taylor isn't trying to say that bud. He's just saying 2 wrongs don't make a right

Another drug isn't the answer...but it wouldn't really be a problem either in this case...now if we were talking about Heroin it'd be a different story

IMO, let the hippies smoke themselves to death for population control and help with taxes, let farmers grow the shit instead of being given gov subsities for growing nothing, it cuts the cartels out of this loop so that mess could ease up for this reason at least, let terminal patients use it to ease suffering of course, start up a textile industry making clothes out of it & whatever other cash crop things that could be done with it to help with jobs and taxation. Let whoever uses it pay for their play. Agree with much that has been posted about the equal and worse things going on that are legal having adverse effects on things already. Much more concerned with things like crime associated with people being out of work, pedophilia, this being turned into a socialist country, etc etc etc than I am about who smokes what and then gets hungry and eats and lays on their couch staring at the TV or ceiling and repeating that cycle throughout the day if unemployed or at the end of their day if employed. Constraints, yes...prohibition, no. Just where and when it's appropriate common sense thing....just like knowing where and when it's appropriate for any number of other things. Most things have it's time and place. Biggest catch to me is that people don't exhibit or use common sense enough these days to even recognize appropriate.

I don't agree with much you say, but in this case we see exactly eye to eye. I don't smoke, but it's none of my business if somebody else does. And it's certainly none of the government's business. If it doesn't break my leg or pick my pocket, who am I to say it's illegal?

I'm voting yes so I can get all my stoner friends to shut the fuck up about it already  I don't smoke anymore. but I did in HS. I don't think its all that bad but it should be treated just like alcohol. Age minimum, No driving after smoking, and maybe you can't smoke in public places at all unless its a designated smoke house.

You really wanna know the main reason why our government will never allow marijuana to be legalized. It would totally destroy tobacco sales, as much as our lawmakers say don't smoke & quit now in reality thats the last thing they want. They are making a ton of money from the taxes not to mention the power that big tobacco has on the Hill.

In many ways we are our own worst enemy in this country, the short sidedness of making money off of tobacco only to give it all back & then some caring for the millions of COPD & Lung CA pts that are a direct result of smoking just blows my mind.

Can you have the same problems associated with smoking pot? Sure, but I know allot of tobacco smoker who smoke two packs a day, a heavy pot smoker only smokes 2 - 4 joints all day, not to mention all the BS the Tobacco industry put in their for no other reason than to addict you, if everyone grew their own tobacco & didn't smoke the manufactured cancer sticks their would be allot less asscoiated pulmonary problems.

Nothing is more dangerous than the idiot who gets in the car/truck/SUV/bike ect ect ect and goes out and does something stupid. Guys, it's not the drug (alcohol or pot) that's the problem, it's the people. Who here can sit there and tell me you haven't seen the dumbass that makes you think, how the hell did you make it through life? Now why would you want them to have access to another source to show us their stupidity.

The whole it's non of my business line is fine right up until it becomes your business because some retard tweaked out on pot or alcohol runs into you or a loved one. What then, is it still not your problem that they may be injured or dead?

I don't really have a problem with people that do need it for medical purposes, you friend seems like one. But as I stated the law as it is written now gives people the license (literally) to grow weed. If it's all about medical then why in the hell would they need to grow it? Why can't they get it at dispensary? This is the reason I say no to Prop 203, I feel like they are trying cover up true reason they want to legalize pot by playing on the fears hopes of those who are sick, and that's for general/recreational consumption (I'm still opposed to recreational consumption).

The only thing i see here is letting Government expand once again to regulate and restrict. Here's a new freedom for you, but only as much as we (the government) say you can have. I don't know about you, but that just leaves a really bad taste in my mouth.

Here's some more food for thought, how much will it cost to regulate and enforce? How will they go about enforcing these new regulations? The Government can barly agree on doing anything as it is now, how the hell are they going to agree on pot? Oh and there went all that tax profit to pay down the debt...

Not trying to be an ass, but really don't want Government incorporated in any more parts of our society then it already is. As far medical use, as I mentioned I think there is some good that can come from it. But we need to approach very cautiously...

PS I'm trying not to be disrespectful to any of you, so if seems that please don't take in that mannor. I respect all of you and enjoy reading your thoughts. :)

Man here in Montana it has been nothing but a Fight between the Pros and Cons since it passed. I hope it works out better for you folks. The city Govt. doesn't want anything to do with it. The county says not us and the state says someone besides us.
