ARP Head-Header Studs

You might be able to buy them individually from Summit Racing or Jegs as well. I have not verified that though. They are 8mm x 1.25 pitch studs.

 

I could not source any for the TC off of dezod, I found these on summit do you know the length of the studs? These are 2.25" long.

Just checked the specs. Overall length is 1.75". Overall thread length is 1.54". 8mm x 1.25 .

Are these worth doing for someone like me who does not live in a salt state? Also, I clicked the link and it said the page was no longer available. Does someone have an updated link?

 

There is no updated link. There are scion tC header studs. The heads should be gone through with a thread chaser to ease the installation.

That being the case, probably not. One thing I will absolutely recommend, is to remove each header to head nut and apply antiseize to each of the studs. To prevent you from having an terribly difficult time to remove them if you ever need to in the future.

Is there still no kit for our truck yet? Anyone know the part numbers that need to be ordered to do the header studs. I would love to do this when my URD specU headers show up. My cracked DTLT's will no doubt be a bear to remove considering they are rusted to all get out.

The DTLT that you would buy today are completely different than the ones I have on my truck. I bought mine at a auction. I got a whole mess of exhaust parts and a bunch of factory FJC parts in a whole lot of stuff. Actually a buddy was at the auction and he saw the headers and called to see if they would fit his dad's taco. When he described them I told him no they wouldn't since his truck was an '02, but they would fit mine. I told him to bid up to $200 on the lot. He ended up getting it all for $25. So I paid him the $25 and some gas money and gave him all the other stuff which he sold and got the headers. But come to find out they were pre or early early production headers that were just steel and only have 1 1/8" primary tubes and no bung in the collector. So mine suck hard. But the ones you would buy today are better. They say. I wanted the best of the best so I am replacing them with the URD specU headers. Gadget told me to weld up the crack and sell them. He says they are still great headers for someone that doesn't care about having every single last bit of power on the bottom end. They can be ceramic coated and they will be great still. So I may weld them up and sell them cheap. LOL

 

I'm gonna buy shorties soon, I just don't know if I should get thorleys or urd...

 

Anyone know the length of the 12-15 upper studs? Sounds like they're longer than the 05-11 models.

 

URD doesn't make shorties. I believer your choices are Thorley's or JBA. I had JBA on my last taco and I was really impressed with the quality. But that was also comparing them to the piles of junk that Edelbrock sells for the 5VZ-FE.

 

JBA is what I meant, thank you. So would you say that the JBAs would be a good purchase? Or are the modern thorleys better?

 

I have the long tube thorley's so I can't really say. I know the ceramic coating on the current thorley's is all i have heard is not great. So i would say that they wouldn't be horrible like mine, but I know the JBA coating on my old ones stood up. Is there a emissions reason your not looking at long tubes? I have not researched the shorties, so I can't say for sure, but to me, I am not sure they are worth it. I don't see that you are gaining much in flow if the cat is still there. But like I said, I have never ever looked into shorties. I know I am not much help. Sorry

 

Yeah, I live in Denver so I have emissions every two years. And from what I've been looking at shorties will give you like 10–15 hp which isn't as much as the long tubes but I can still pass emissions with them. So it may not be the best but it's better than factory, I just don't know which shorties to buy
