I searched and searched finding all I could about performing the mod knowing my NWTI front bumper was on the way.

First off the 1157 sockets are big and I was afraid one misstep on drilling and I'd be done. I had purchased new corner lights and didn't want to ruin them. After a quick search I found 1194 bulb sockets made from stiff rubber, Dorman part number 85814

    http://www.autozone.com/collision-b...dicator-bulb-socket/600643_0_0/?checkfit=true

The only downside is that the 1194 bulb does not have enough resistance so it blinks quickly. I'm going to replace the tails with LED's and a resistor pack in the future....

I used a stepped bit and drilled to insure that the socket would not interfere with the slot on the lamp assembly.

There's a tab on the fender and you need to make sure the new socket sits outside of this. Luckily the socket has a flat "wing" so you turn it vertical.

The wires on the old socket are thin so I double them over before crimping... yes I used butt connectors and shrink wrap.

Pull the completed harness back up through the fender... I used a tie wrap to prevent it from falling back down.

    Done and done!

Awesome write up, I've been putting this off because I thought the same about the big 1157 sockets.

How is the visibility of the 1194 bulb in daylight? my only concern is that they won't be bright enough

Regular 194 bulb is barely visable.

I bought some ridiculously bright leds off of ebay and their brighter than factory blinkers.

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/272084313402

This guy found a better (brighter) solution than the resistor pack:
    Fyi 168 = 194 for bulb fitment

I can confirm. All pics can be seen on dial up.

Great write up! I ended up doing this last night after some highway debris took out my blinker. Had to trim the tabs on the light sockets a bit.

I used 921 bulbs and they seem to be good enough.
