I haven't made much progress in the way of figuring out if the 2012 t4r trans will work, I salvaged the slt solenoid from it and used it in my 06 Tacoma a750 along with the internal harness and fixed my 2716 cel. The plan was to put the t4r trans in when I did my engine swap but I ran out of time and decided to go with what I knew worked for the time being and expedite getting my truck back on the road. I haven't given up, but waiting for a more convenient time to finish this.

There have been other members asking about year interchanges and I have been pointing them to this thread .
You are still the only member here at Tacoma World with the balls to try it , so best wishes from myself and the guys who are watching the thread
Regardless , I am glad to see you are mobile with the 2006 transmission for now

I am very interested in the results of this. I am looking to do a prerunner to 4x4 conversation on my 05 taco and from what I'm finding the A750F trand from a tacoma is the most expensive of all. I found some from a local LKQ salvage yard for $300-400 from a 2003 v8 4runner while their tacoma A750F are running over $1,000. If I was to find one from an 03 - 07 4runner or an 07fm fj cruiser do you think they would be the same being that they run the same drivetrain setups?
Also another thought, if you were to say get one from a 07-11 and swapped valve bodysuit and wiring from original trans, in my case the trans in my truck shifts great and has no issues. Would this fix the non compatible parts? Dont see them changing the internals of the transmission other than valve body, wiring or ECU operation without changing the model# tho I could be wrong about that.

    The a750f from my 06 looks identical to the 2012 t4r a750f

Yeah, to me it doesnt make sense for them to have the same model transmission in SO many different vehicles and have them not be interchangeable with at most being different valve bodies or wiring and solenoids.

Right now my trucks on the waiting list for a new frame, delaying my progress on this. No eta on it currently.

Maybe I'll get to test it out first then. Tho I plan on sticking to a similar year of transmission as my truck. Just dont want to pay the inflated price for one out of a tacoma.

Not all a750f's have the same tcase behind it, just something to keep in mind if you're buying the whole thing.

I will be putting a transfer case from an FJ cruiser behind it. No wiring to worry about with the fj tcase as they are level shift.

Updated OP. Successfully swapped my tired and worn out 2006 A750F trans for a low mileage 2012 A750F from a Toyota 4 runner, including the manual shift tcase. So I did NOT need to use one from a specific model or year range contrary to what junkyards and the dealer had said.

Any check engine light? How does it run compared to original? Now I'm wondering if the A750E from different year are interchangeable as well.

No check engine light, runs much better and shifts like a dream compared to my older, and IMO, worn out and in need of a rebuild a750f at 195,000 miles. It honestly seems like the ECU doesn't realize a switch has been made, nor should it, but the driveability had improved with shift flare eliminated and upshifts and downshifts are seamless vs my old transmission where sometimes downshifts while braking were occasionally harsh and 4th - 5th shift flare was constant. I'm guessing it's mostly due to the mileage difference, 80k vs 195k. The 4runner bellhousing fit the 1grfe just like the Tacoma bellhousing and my ultra guage metrics still display TC temp and trans pan temp, however I haven't seen the TC lockup status change, so something may be different there in how it identifies as being in lockup or not in lockup. I can feel it go in and out of lockup, but it doesn't change the output on my guage.

I really don't see why the 750E would be any different. It's the same transmission +/- the transfercase, and the wiring harness is the same. If you take a a750e and slap a transfer case on the back of it, you've essentially turned it into an a750f or vice versa, remove the tcase from an f, and run it with just a rear output shaft it becomes a a750e.

Has anyone had any experience with the A750F out of the V8 4Runner swapping into a Tacoma? It seems that there is way more availability for that one. The part numbers don't match up on Toyota OEM parts. I'm wondering what the difference is.

That makes zero sense because they made way less of those. As @bobsuruncle pioneered the trans will work but the bell housing on the V8 is different and you can’t use it behind your V6

I'm kind of surprised myself but looking through eBay, its riddled with 4x4 V8 versions. Thanks for the info.

The part numbers changed based on numerous things. It's application and configuration determined it's part number with what I would call, revisions, along the way. Those revisions resulted in a part number change in TMC database. There were slight changes made with each revision, but in the end, an A750 is an A750 in my opinion. One manufactured in 2003/4 still has the same as one that was used in a 2015 tacoma. Same amount of gears, solenoids and the SAME wiring harness connector on the side to interface with a Tacoma, t4r, FJC, or Tundra. The ECU from each vehicle over the years that contained the ability to use certain features built into the A750 that others couldn't. The feature that sticks out to me the most is the sequential shift that the A750 is capable of, but only 1grfe 2007+ tundras and 2009+ t4rs had the feature programmed into the ECU. The 2uz t4r was canceled before it saw S mode I believe. I've used 3 internal a750 wiring harness in my tacoma that were each sourced from different vehicles without issue in regards to shifting or TC lockup performance.

In my non professional, non engineer, Toyota hobbyist opinion, an A750 that was once attached to a 2uz will work in a Tacoma no problem. As @hx989 said, you'll need to swap the bell housing, which if your current one is fine will swap in it's place.

The 2uz was also available in the tundras not just the t4r, but I agree, there's probably millions more a750s assembled behind the 1grfe vs the small portion of them configured with the 2uz.

Still no issues with the newer transmission? Posted yesterday about what transmissions would interchange, no reply’s yet and stumbled across your post. You have me sold on it, only thing I am worried about is the TC and how it locks/unlocks. Is yours performing as it should still? I found a guy close with a 13 trans would be great to drive 30 min to pick it up instead of eBaying one. Thanks!!!
