Either autocorrect kicked in or I was still half awake. My friend emailed me a .wmv file (video file from windows) and I can't watch it. Looking for a program that will allow me to watch it. Thanks.

There's a program called VLC or something in the app store. It's supposed to play any kind of file. Pretty sure it's free, too.

    Morning,
Here is my question for the apple nerd.

I have an iPad2, purchased in December of '11.
Recently, the unit will not come out of sleep mode unless I hold down the top button, and the bottom button for an extremely long time 2 - 3 minutes I've tried, sometimes it will not come back to life until the next day.

What can I do to fix the issue?
I have removed all the recently installed apps and still have the same problem. This unit has never been dropper, or miss handled, what gives?

    Thanks,
    Pujo

I know that this isn't your exact problem but I'm guessing there's a 90% chance it will work. I've used this on iPads before. BUT IT WILL RESET YOUR DEVICE TO FACTORY SPECS.

Sorry if it's been asked before, but didn't want to read 23 pages of mac problems. . .

Mac nerd, what is your opinion on building a custom platform and installing the mac OS. I have been researching hackintosh/custom macs for some time now and realize it takes a certain level of computer know how to get the OS to boot properly and to de-bug issues that come up.

I would like to use the new intel sandybridge processor, at least 16gb of ram, and a solid state hard drive. Do you know if I need a certain type of video card etc to obtain maximum performance?

I will be using this platform for HD video editing and would like to avoid spending $4000 on a mac pro when I can build a more powerful platform for around $1500. Suggestions?

Seems like a legit question. I've never done it, but since Mac's are now running x86 procs, I don't see why it can't be done.

Good luck natemoore2088. Seems like the best of both worlds... I know guys that triple boot, OSX, Ubuntu & Win7... Why not? I'd do it if I had a use for OSX, lol.
