No. This topic has been beat to death in an earlier thread. The "hill start assist" in the brochures for off-road and pro models is not what normal hill start assist is, and what people expect.

The version in off-road and pro models is sorta-kinda-close-enough to pass the legalities for use of that terminology in advertising, but is absolutely not what hill start assist actually is.

Normal hill start assist involves holding the brakes for a short period of time until the driver gives input to the gas pedal. There is to be zero vehicle rollback or braking-system-related noise.

Off-road and pro models use their off-road goodies to simulate this as best as they can, but the end result is not a true hill start assist system.

mine does this, the dealership said its the brake boost that gets confused when this happens and causes the ticking and blinking on the dash

wonder if thats what happened to mine a little while ago.
was leaving my grandmothers and when I was backing out of her driveway (house is on a hill) as soon as I put it in drive i went to gun it, just heard a bunch of noise and had some warning light pop up on the dash. No message in the display but some yellow light.
put my foot back on the brake, and it went away and then drove away fine.

not sure if its because I didn't give it enough time to get into gear?
the hill she lives on always has dumb cunts speeding down it and they can't see you on the hill until its too late

Tried it again today two times. Just waited to give the transmission a second to get in gear. No issues again

Bumping this. I was on a steep hill at an intersection. Foot on the brake in Drive. When light turned green, I let off the brake and the truck rolled back a tad and the minute I gave it gas to go it made a clicking/clacking/breaking/grindy sound. Apparently this is normal and apart of this hill assist? Just seems weird as it sounds like it something is breaking or getting jacked up.

I have learned to keep my left foot on the brake if stopped on a big incline in traffic. I give it gas with right foot as I let off the brake with my left. This gets rid of roll back and crazy crawl mode type racket.

    Vehicle:
    2017 Tacoma OR 4x4 (formerly 2002 OR 4x4, 1995 4x4 4Runner, 1985 4x4 Toy PU) ... and RIP’s (rust in pieces) to a Bronco II 4x4 & S10 Blazer 4x4
Mine engaged when I rolled backwards slightly from the top of a regular speed bump. Lordy I hate that, I used to keep my 1st gen in drive when wheeling up a hill and would sometimes let it roll back a bit to get a second try at climbing over a ledge or digging in on a slippery part without having to go out of D, now I’m supposed to stop doing that?:frusty:
