Well to be able to answer this question properly we'd have to know a few things about your vehicle and what you plan to do with it...

I see you have a 2004 TRD access cab, do you plan on doing a lot of trail riding or just keeping it on the street?

And pics of your truck would help us tremendously.

I want more of trail truck but I will most likely use it more onroad but at the same time a lot off-road and also should I stick with 265/75r16 or go up 285/75r16

Believe or not the tires I’m running right now came from Walmart, they are 265/70R/16’s they’re called Antares. I’ve had them on 1 1/2 years now and have lots of tread yet. If you order online and ship them to a nearest store that changes tires the shipping is free. These tires cost me $90 a piece

Stick with 265's, 285's will rub without modifications.

You can get wild peak at3’s for like 140$ a tire and most seem happy with them. Stick with a 265....

Stock height to a 2" lift I would run 265-70 or 265-75. Whats your budget? I think you can get the Cooper Discoverer RTX from NTB for around $120 a tire in those sizes. Its a cheaper yet still decent all terrain tire. I plan on switching to them when my current tires wear out.

I'm a huge Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac fan. I've bought 3 sets on 3 different vehicles and have loved every mile of them. They are plenty quiet for every day driving, smooth and quiet on the highway, plenty of traction for any off roading I've ever done (and anyone else I've wheeled with). They are relatively cheap - the last 2 sets of 265's I've installed have cost about $720 for tires/mounting/balancing/roadside warranty. The set I had on my Xterra had 40k miles on them and still had 1/3 tread left. I could've hit 50k miles on those easily.

Keep your eyes open for Tacoma original equipment takeoffs. Previously owned Goodyear Kevlar’s would be nice tires on a budget.

Stick with the stock tire size. Falkens are the best all terrain on a budget (can get them for less than $120/tire). If you want to step up a bit you could go for the new Cooper AT3 4S which are still only $150/tire. KO2s will set you back around $250/tire... I just ordered some new Coopers so will get them on later this week but so far reviews are good.

I needed a tire that would perform well on pavement... I like to drive sporty in the mountains and whatnot so something that hugs and handles well is essential. But I also want to be able to do some mild offroading and most weekends am on rutted out unmaintained fire roads, the occasional mild stream crossing, etc.,

    Too few to list.
I think it would be nice to know what the actual budget is since it can differ from person to person along with their opinions and recommendations.

Why don't you upsize Antares? Do they make a 265/75 16, or better yet 255/80 16???
