I have a 21 OR MT. I’m not an off roader as in rock crawling or mudding for fun. I do have plenty of opportunities to get stuck on the farm and hunting. I was hunting during a heavy rain and driving on logging roads. I thought I got in way over my head. I put her in low 2nd gear with atrac enabled. I couldn’t believe how good it did. I knew I was going to get stuck but never did. Works well in reverse too. I’ll probably never need the locker.

I have an early version of A-trac in my 07 FJ Cruiser. Not sure if it's the same as what's in you 21 MT Taco, but concur it is a bad ass system that really works!

I loved atrac in my 4runner. I wish my Tacoma had it to go with the locker, but I have an AT

I have the mts (auto trans) not atrac but I understand them to be similar. It is fantastic in muddy conditions, I don't know why it doesn't seem to get much love on here.

It does have it though. MTS is just adjustable ATRAC.

MTS is better because it is adjustable. ATRAC is better than I expected.

MTS is my favorite system on my truck. MTS combined with CC , when used as a DAC is amazing.

MTS is Atrac on steroids. It gives 5 modes for you to dial it in (from "Rock" to "Sand & Mud"). There is a thread that explains the various traction systems including MTS here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-traction-control-modes-explained.530695/

I find that using MTS (Multi-terrain-select) is sometimes much better than engaging my rear locker.

Probably because people don’t play with them much, they really should be available in 4HI
