I know that TRAC, ATRAC, VSC, etc. have been discussed many times on this forum and thanks to you all, I now sort of understand it all, but I still have one question.
When you engage ATRAC, in 4wd low of course, how do you know it is engaged?
Shouldn't an "A-TRAC" light be lit on the dash? The owners manual seems to say so.
I have a 2010 TRD off road and no light comes on when I hit the ATRAC button.
I don't know if it is on or not. So far I have only tried it it at a stop or rolling slowly back and forth in the driveway. Do you need to be moving or experiencing wheel slippage for ATRAC to engage? (although I don't think there is anything to actually "engage")
I took the vehicle to a mechanic who is Toyota factory trained, I also took it to the local Toyota dealer, they both gave me a not to convincing explanation that ATRAC would only kick in if I was experiencing wheel slippage. I am wondering if they were confusing ATRAC with TRAC.
The dealer service rep did point out that if you turn the ignition switch to on momentarily to illuminate all the dash lights, there is no A-TRAC light on the dash, so it must not have one.
    thanks
    Jon

If I remember right I have an ATRAC light on mine (2010 off road as well) when you have it on it only engages when one of the wheels are slipping. You'll hear a creaking/grinding type of sound because the truck is applying the breaks. It's really come in hand the few times I've used it

I've never seen a light come on. And I put it in 4 LO to start, then press button.

Used atrac on my 2020 while off road this weekend. Pressing the button resulted in no light. A light did come on when it engaged in a low traction spot.

Mine came on after doing it correctly. Neutral, 4LO, button on.
