The real question is, does that truck use auto LSD?

Nah. The 1GR is not greatly different than ours.

What I'm saying is to make peace with what folks bought. If their gonna cry in their Wheaties after doing their due diligence (at whatever level they did it), then just stop complaining and sell the Taco for more, and move on. No mod is gonna be better overall than stock.

Torsens do not have clutches. They have worm gears. If they lift a wheel they stop putting power down.

    An Auburn LSD has clutches.

It’s not no, just funny how some peeps talk about it.

Well it’s the forums, just what humans do…

I put a deposit on my truck without test driving it and I couldn’t be happier. Coming from a ranger, this thing a spaceship. I like it more and more as the time goes by.

I did the engine swap thing... for years. It I could fit it, it got an EFI 5.0L in it. My Explorer was just simply more fun though with the old 4.0L in it. I really felt the 5.0L was too much. I love speed, but I am completely happy with the power the 2GR-FKS puts out. The only change I would consider is more reduction gear, selectable. That Northwest Fabworks ecocrawler is something I will admit I like the looks of...

The Torsen used in the Fords uses wormgears backed by clutches. It allows for better diffential action so there aren't any lawsuits for a near locked rear end of a small pickup truck. It definitely is not the Torsen diff of legend!

Interesting. Never heard of such a thing but I don’t stay current. Thank you.

I test drove 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen V6s as well as the 2.7l. They all had their positives and negatives, but all felt generally similar. I was mostly surprised how well the 140,000mi+ 2nd Gens were feeling, like new.

That said, I am tuning 2nd Gens and 4Runners. Folks are having issues just like we were. Toyota just ain't listening.

Yeah. I am happier the more time that I spend in it and use it.

Seriously. It should be more than some nicer shocks. Took them 7yrs to kick out a UCA that I'm betting has the same geometry.

I had a 5.0 Explorer. Never even considered to be remotely too much.

Torsen diff doesn't have clutches. A Ranger would have a been a trac lok (or open) diff which is a normal clutch style LSD. To my knowledge Ford didn't use a Torsen from the factory until the recent Boss 302 Mustangs.

My dads rebuilt, rust bucket 4th gen 4R with 170k miles literally drives like new. I could not fucking believe it when I drove it. He uses it as a bush truck and does very basic maintenance on it with cheapest oils/fluids. I asked him if he changed the ATF and he laughed, he is one of those guys. That thing has a hard life, the floor boards are rusted trough too…

Since I’m keeping my truck till the wheels fall off, it will be interesting to see if they prove to be just as reliable as the previous gens. My ranger took me to 165k with very minor issues, I expect this taco to do the same with at least 200k.

Ford put a Torsen that had clutches in the Ranger FX4 package back in the early 2000's. I worked at an all Ford autowrecker. I pulled one and put it in the rear diff of my 1991 Explorer. Also did a rear disc conversion while I was at it.

If you had a factory 5.0L Explorer, then it was a different tune then the Mustang based 5.0L I put in mine. My boss at the the time had a factory 5.0L Explorer. It just wasn't the same... I also had a custom wider ratio AOD built to give better off the line grunt. I could spin the 32" Superswampers I had on there with little effort.

Some nut in a 5.0 swapped Ranger came skidding up beside my car one day asking me to race. That thing fishtailed like crazy, was all over the road when he left.
