    none so far!
holy crap! I'm surprised with that poll. I'm onto my 2nd 6spd tacoma now, I was thinking of getting the auto this time so I can have a full bed and dbl cab but I said forget it, I don't want to be driving automatic I actually enjoy a manual truck too much.

Now as for power, is the auto actually more powerful than the 6spd?

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
Well I have towed at least half of the 18000 miles on my 6spd tacoma and the manual 6spd is great for towing. Unless you have to back up.

My two most recent trips I just completed 2400 miles straight, with 6580 lbs of trailer and a bed full of stuff, in snow and terrible winds with mountains etc I got 11.5 mpg average. This was a 6x12 enclosed trailer.

the second trip was 1300 miles with a huge load on my 20 ft car hauler, 96 inches wide and 8 ft tall from the deck of the trailer, good weather and I averaged 10.9 mpg.

On the second trip I also had my 2006 4runner with 5300 lbs in tow and it averaged just barely over 11 mpg with the automatic and less weight. Through the mountains the 6spd tacoma actually did better on fuel completely loaded. The 4runner was pulling dolly and truck on the dolly that was loaded with drivetrain parts.

On the second trip the third truck was a 2004 tacoma with 16ft car hauler, 76 inches wide and 7 feet from the deck high at about 7000 lbs. It got an average of just under 10 mpg but it could not keep up in the mountains with my 2013 and it shifted much more.

Before someone says anything both trucks have brake controller s and both trailer have brakes, but something that the 6 spd did much better at was on long downhill grades it could engine brake off most of the gravity and my brakes didn't have to break a sweat.

Not more powerful, but it is faster unloaded and 0-60 than the 6spd.

I forgot what the question was. I would not object to an "automatic" if there were paddle shifters on the steering wheel and I could set it to full manual shifting if I wanted. It pisses me off to be driving up to a corner and getting ready to brake (or shift down) and the damned automatic shifts up.

And I have always maintained that if the automatic transmission had never been invented, there would be much less traffic, because so many people just would not be able to drive at all.

I think a 4.0 Tacoma 2wd with automatic, towing package and properly setup rear suspension would be a stoplight terror. My 6 spd. is pretty slow shifting, but it goes pretty good for 4,000 lbs (tow package gears help).

You can just down shift the auto with the shifter... I do it all the time when I am out ripping up the desert. I usually keep it in 2nd and bump it to 3rd when I redline 2nd then when I have to slow down I drop it back down to 2nd. I down shift to engine break my auto on the street just like I do in my manual trans car that I DD.

The only difference between the auto and the manual when driving/shifting (besides the lack of a clutch on the auto) is that when you are in say 3rd gear and you punch it, the auto will downshift to 2nd (if you are going slow enough to not redline 2nd anyway) and the manual will stay in 3rd. But in that situation you probably want to down shift the manual to 2nd for the extra acceleration also.

This makes no sense , if the auto was never invented everyone would learn to drive a manual

If the automobile was never invented more people would still be riding a horse to work

i drove my '94 chevy 5.7 auto half ton to 280,000 before i sold it for a '98. never a problem. and i used it like a truck is meant to be used. in fact, it was one of the most reliable vehicles i've ever owned. chevy's get slammed for poor quality, but i only replaced the normal things (starter, battery, brakes, etc.) and it never let me down or left me stranded. but i still really love my tacoma.[/QUOTE] yea im with this bro.. ive owned 11 brand new chevys,, all were black, all were lifted.. all were great trucks,, but once lifted the front end was junk, and I do mean junk... I even had a fab-tech front end on 2 diff trucks.. every single yes every single time I off roaded it, the alighment was shot.. I bought my tocame with 6in lift.. and haqve had it off road and even had it in the air slightly.. she just keeps on rolling like new.. in all honesty, if I don't find that I need diesel power on this farm, I will not buy the big 3 ever again... roll taco

At this point in my life, I wouldn't want to drive anything but a stick. More fun, and it's becoming a lost art with most Americans barely even able to drive their automatics with collision alert systems, cameras on the back end and cars that parallel park themselves.

.. Plus your stick shift is way less likely to get stolen, cause most thugs just cant drive it.

After only a few days, I don't see a problem with the 6 spd. I drive it like a truck that it is. My only concern is those usually behind me that have no clue that people still drive manual transmissions. It's a very short first gear and requires a quick shift to second when coming off a light for example.

The transmission and clutch seem to be pretty user friendly (again with the understanding that this is a truck). No idea which is stronger between the auto or manual. Each have advantages, and disadvantages to them in my opinion. Mostly, a matter of personal preference. I'm 45 and I hate heavy traffic in a manual. Not enough to keep me from daily driving one though.

Which one is stronger would mean how many Ft. Lbs. of torque does it take to break. I doubt that information exists. They might have a recommended engine torque limit rating, but it'll be calculated on many factors having little or nothing to do with it's yield strength.

Which will last longer? Driven and serviced judiciously, the manual is more likely to outlast the auto. Driven hard, either can die prematurely and it'll depend on the driver as to which will suffer more.
Which is quicker accelerating? Depends on the driver, but probably the auto unless you power-shift the manual which will shorten it's life.
Which can tow more? Auto versions of every vehicle I've ever checked have a higher rating than their manual counterparts.
Which is less likely to die and leave you stranded without warning, the manual for sure.
Which allows the driver to accidentally do more damage to it and other components, the manual.
