I failed to mention that I had lowered the ring so that I could tighten up the knob. When it’s tight it is not aligned correctly so the ring can’t be snapped back on. It needs another 3/4 of a turn to line up.

Is there a product that works like glue on the threads but is not permanent?

Today I tried again to tighten the knob past the point where I thought it could tighten no more and to my amazement there was enough turn left to get it real tight and in the correct position to snap the ring back on. I was all set to use Loctite but decided to give it one more try first. No more inadvertent twisting.

Thanks to members who suggested that all I had to do was screw it until tight. Takes me awhile to get it!
