    personally I'd be much more interested in a "hands on" disconnect, no need to have "automatic" ie electric via the cab- not sure how well it would even work- I'd think you'd want to fully remove the lower ends of the sway bar to prevent potential damage to the CV joints

    the one pictured looks like a very viable candidate

    Terrible idea. What happens when the swaybar interferes with the suspension, tie-rod, and/or axles while disconnected?

    Sure man, whatever you say.

    But when you're airing down at the side of the trail

    1. you don't already have the wheels off
    2. you don't already have the skid plate/splash pan off
    3. you (probably) don't have any air tools handy and even if you do:
    4. you have to retrieve all needed tools from where they're stored/strapped/locked down.
    5. you now have to store/tie down the sway bar so it won't fly around/out of your bed
    6. re-rack the tools you used.

    Five minutes, the man says. :rolleyes:

    I think the only way to do this right is to replace the factory bar with a new bar and link set-up designed to be disconnectable. Working with the existing bar will probably result in nothing but a kludge IMO

    Just thought about something, could be completely retarded or even discussed before, but here goes.

    What about fabbing/modifying a sway bar into two pieces, split down the middle. Somehow having a cable tied to a strong pin/fastener to hold them together, and when you want to remove, just pull the cable to release them to allow for better articulation. Not sure what sits around the bar above the skid plate, or how it will move around in there if cut down the middle like that.

    Any input?

    I'm thinking more along the lines of this unit from Speedway Engineering:

    The disconnect unit could be at the splined ends, or perhaps just at one end. The bar can't function unless both ends are attached. This set-up could be accessable enough to be a manual thing similar to a mini locking hub. I'm just talking concept here. I haven't measured anything.

    Whatever you do would have to be a spline of some kind. A pin won't work on the bar.
