I get that mounting an awing on one side or the other is a matter of personal preference, or by design, but as I get ready to install mine I thought I'd check in to see what the pros and cons are of using it in the real world on either side. Any regrets, successes, profound moments of jubilation? Thanks!

I would say drive side just because you'll likely be going in and out of it more often.

I would say driver side also, for the fact that a lot of guys remove the rear single seat in the back on the driver side and put the refridgerator there.

Thank for the feedback guys. Anyone experience real-world benefits or disadvantages to having your awning on one side or the other?

    More weight on driver side.

Otherwise, set it up for your needs. Makes zero difference.

That's my dilemma and why I keep using the term, "real-world". Hoping to hear from folks who have them mounted on one side or another and why they chose that side.
My first thought was to have it on the passenger side to help with weight distribution.

I'd put it on the driver's side since like someone else said you're likely to be going in and out of that side more often. Think of all the times you need to hop into the cab to pop open the hood, turn on/off the lights, grab something out of the center console, grab your phone, etc. Just easier to do from the driver's side.

An awning weighs like 25 lbs. I wouldn't worry about weight.

    This.

The only reason to mount it on one side or the other is how your vehicle is setup and how you intend to use it.

This thread needs a poll. :D

    Driver.

    Probably in that side more.
May be easier to set up since you can park and easily see the lay of the land while doing so.
Probably easier to keep tabs on in the woods so you are not smashing it on trees ect.

RTT opens on driver side, so mine is on the passenger. Plus some parking areas near the beach and road are parallel, so it allows me to open it for shade.

I have mine on my passenger side, only because of the way my rtt folds open. But I love the way it's setup for me and the Fam. Kids on one side, me and the wife on the other. Gear centered in the truck bed and access to all doors on the truck.

I have my RTT and my awwning opening up on the passenger side. I chose this arrangement since we setup all the camp comforts on that side. My son, my GF and my GF's son can all operate on that side leaving the drivers side for my access to the driver seat and to my stuff behind it.

Seems to work. I wish I would have gotten a longer awning though. Its a 55" and provides an okay amount of shade. I originally wanted a foxwing/batwing style 270 degree awning, but the mid height bed rack makes this more of a challenge compared to a full height rack. Same reasoning behind the 55" awning as well, it covers both doors and hangs off the prinsu.
