I’m getting ready to start collecting parts for a sac on my 08. Anyone get a diamond housing or a ruffstuff axle lately? I can’t get ahold of them. My plan is to use fj80 parts, custom housing and leaf springs. The new 67” rock assault that is made like the ruffsuff is available but trail gear’s quality makes me nervous. Any ideas?

Personally, I would never slap a tg axle on my truck. When I last spoke to Ryan @RS about building an axle using my 80 ball on their housing, it wasn't an issue. FYI, tg axles all have mini which mean you can't run any 80 parts except for the hp centered.

You email FROR? Don't email them through diamond website. They're pretty good at responding.

Getting their 80 ball is nice. I don't think their knuckles are the best in the market. Their original designed integrated the 17mm and now use a 20mm bearing. Why not run a 25mm instead? Isn't bigger always better (that's what she said).

Well, you won't regret getting a diamond axle for sure. Have you try contacting Ryan at RS? I know that when I was looking to buy, RS site said currently not taking order. But when I spoke with Ryan, he said it won't be an issue.

I could never get diamond to answer my questions or emails or return phone calls. Ruffstuff is what I went with and now just finished my third housing and have not been disappointed once.

shameless plug I do have a ruffstuff 8 in housing with mini truck outers for sale.

I don’t want to be any wider then stock, I already have trouble fitting on trails around here. Also I don’t want to mess with swapping the rear.

Does your truck have an elocker if so it may be adventitious to swap both axels as the ring and pinon on the second gen tacoma off road is a weak spot especially when you start getting in to big stuff i have read through a ton of builds where they have replaced the ring and pinion multiple times in a year. Mine gave up a little over 2 years ago i just bought matching axels from a 05 f250 with the plan to eventually SAS my truck for now i just have the 10.5 under the back as life place a hold on the front.

Yes it has a locker. I understand that the Toyota axle is weaker but if I wanted one ton axles I would just drive a one ton truck.

My biggest reason for doing it this way is cause i got 2 axels for less than what people are asking for a single fj80 axel
