A few years ago, I sold my 06 Tacoma TRD and bought a Tundra to do some towing. Man I hated the Tundra from day one. Happily, I'm back in a Tacoma as of today. It's a 2013 Access Cab 4x4 SR5 in Magnetic Grey with 17k miles... still under warranty.

So a simple question... what should I do to bring the truck up to spec? Seems like everyone recommends Helwig sway bars. I'll definitely do that.

Any other must-do upgrades, checks, service, etc?

When I bought my other car, there were tons of must-do mods... like putting in a better horn (instead the meep-meep OEM horn). Sway bars were a first mod for everyone with that car too.

The Tacoma is a DD for me. The sway bars are clearly a good choice for making the drive better. I'm guessing a bed mat is a must have too. Stereo sucks so maybe something to do there as well. I also saw a lot of people switching out to LED's in the cabin. Basically, I'm just looking to play around with the truck a bit to make it as enjoyable as possible driving to work.

Throw us another clue or two.... Towing? Camping? Light off roading? Full tilt off road monster truck? Mall Crawler? I'm quite sure there will be every opinion under the sun, and we're ALWAYS willing to spend someone elses money.

The things you mentioned are personal preference. Not sure why the sway bar is a must-do since for some it would be a must-not depending on use of truck outside of daily driving. You'll find a lot of folks on here like to hit the trails as well as use their truck to commute to and from work, so a must do for a lot of people is more clearance, bigger/better tires, and higher end suspension.

Agreed, my build will include the removal of the sway bar. It's not for everyone and it definitely isn't the safest on an on road truck but a lot of the guys that wheel their truck usually remove the sway bar

True but some people get them because they can be used as a step and it blocks shopping carts from hitting the door.

A simple (and far less expensive) running board will usually accomplish those things. Another thing sliders are good for is a lift point for a high lift jack.

Not saying it's not an option just saying what else they can be used for.

metal tubes that go down the sides of your truck. The kickouts are the flared out part. It offers further protection, and serves as a step to access the bed or roof. People who offroad heavily use them to protect their trucks. They can be welded, or bolted on. I ordered mine to bolt on directly to the factory running board bolts. took two people ten mins to install. I dont offroad, but asked on tacomaworld what the best door dent protection from other assholes swinging open their doors was, and sliders was the answer. basically, if somebody pulls up close to you and opens their door carelessly, they smash their door on your slider and trash their door, leaving your truck untouched. Sometimes it even leaves some of their paint on your slider:D It wont work on vehicles higher than yours, and some back doors due to the curve. But I have the color matched mouldings on the side of my truck to catch any of those doors. But the sliders will protect your truck 90% of the time. 20150912_150800.jpg
