I have some left over flexible white LED strips, and I was thinking of backlighting my Satoshi Grill, wiring it into the front marker lights. Does this sound ricey? I am planning on putting a switch in the system so I can turn it off if I don't want it on all the time.

I really wanted to do white and red LEDs with a switch for each color, but I couldn't find the LEDs, and I read that anything other than white and yellow is illegal to use as lighting out the front of any vehicle...

Hope to do this in the next few weeks.

Edit - Finished this, check out a few posts below for details.

How do you plan on backlighting it? Just the emblem? I will be doing my satoshi sometime next week and I like your idea.

I was thinking of doing a loop around the backside of the main portion of the grill, so it is facing inward. I am waiting for my 5 meters of LEDs to show up, then I will pull the grill, and mock it up and take a picture.

Oh wow. Mind telling how much you payed for five feet of leds? That is a pretty cool idea.

DONE: I used twist ties to attach it for now, I want to test it out, I have it all set to go, just haven't connected the power to anything yet.

Thanks, I will let you know if the LEDs fail, hoping they don't. Also glad you like it, really wish I could have done the lights in red, but it isn't legal from what I have read.

That is cool, not Ricey IMO. I think if you paint everything behind your grille black it would look better but looks great.

Thanks, I bought black radiator/engine paint last month, but it has been way too cold to paint behind the grille lately.

I think its pretty cool lookin, it would just be cooler if it didnt light up the radiator so much, or more of the toyota emblem. Maybe you can angle them out more somehow? Can's those led strips be cut?

THANKS, and yes the strips can be cut, these are left overs from my bed lighting adventure. I really wish the radiator wasnt so lit up too, ideas? It will get painted black as soon as it warms up, but that wont fix it all, just make it less noticable.

You could try cutting the strips shorter, and having just one on top and bottom. Then, mount them back fatter toward the radiator, angled out toward the emblem maybe. Then you will have more strips for something else

I had a thought, what if instead of paint the radiator black, paint it red, then the LEDs would light the red background a look like red lights, but legally be white lights. Thoughts?
