Howdy Team! I am trying to search through this forum to see what people do with their 3rd gen when it comes to back seats and dirty dogs. I see some things about seat covers here and there but I am really curious what people have found success with when it comes to back seat covers and their dogs on a functional basis and a long term basis.

I have 2 pups, 1 is a rat terrier who doesn't weigh enough to put a dent in the cushion and the other is a Mastiff Shar Pei mutt who slobbers and weighs in around 80 lbs with feet so strong that they might as well be advertised with the Kung Fu Grip.... Both are well behaved enough to take long trips but that requires protection.

What I am struggling with is finding a way to protect those back seats, and hopefully a solution that I could leave in long term as I am pretty certain that the only occupants of that part of the rig is going to be the pups.

Has anyone had luck with something like this they keep in the truck full time? Is there a product out there that allows you to keep utilizing the under seat / behind the seat storage, or is that just a pipe dream?

Appreciate the advice as we will be taking the new ride to AZ for some hiking and off -roading in August and want to bring the idiots (dogs) with us if we can on the long trip from Dallas to AZ.

I bought a Carhartt rear seat cover from autozone that connects to the rear head rests but drapes over the rest of the seat. It can be flipped up to utilize the under seat storage. Material is nice and thick so your dogs probably can't ruin it easily. I haven't had any issues at all with it.

This worked OK for me. It protects the seats and catches a ton of hair. I folded the seats down (thinking it would minimize the hair on the seats). The straps that needed to attach to the rear headrests had to be loosely attached to the clothes hangers on the headliner near the back window. I have a German Shepherd that will get hair everywhere no matter what. Next time I will try with the seats up. The flap that protects the door handle/window area is great and unzips to let the dogs out while protecting the side of the seats and door sill area.

Get a good shop vac and invest in lint rollers for the hair the vacuum misses. The covers help contain the hair, but they do nothing for your headliner. The lint roller was a big help.

I bought the “I Love Pets” brand from Amazon a few years ago for about $40. It covers the whole seat from the top to the floor (including the sides of the seats) There’s also a Velcro seam so the seat belts can be easily pulled through in case you need them and some straps on the bottom edge to turn it into a hammock-style seat.
Durable, waterproof, looks good and has been great so far...

Yeah, I haven’t had my bottom seats installed in years, so mine are always folded down. The rear loose straps are not ideal but I do not have large dogs so not an issue but do have a golden retriever/ chow mix…. Tons of hair, but I have noticed this helps a lot with that. It works for me perfectly in my situation.
I think maybe with the rear seats up might help some With larger dogs like yours who like to sprawl out like Homer Simpson :D

Mine are folded down. Have been for years. Can still get under seats easy. 8$ runner carpet with rubber bottom from Home Depot. Have my dog with me always. Back of seats are plastic and so is back wall. Cleans up easy. And when the mat is shot way to get another. B8482058-945C-4907-AE8E-E47E822FDB19.jpg

Some of us use our trucks and do work with them. Those won't likely look new after 5 years

I have the 4knines one as well. I think it's going on about a year now, and the dog travels with me at least once a week. I have a 75lb blue nose, and his roley poley self would always break the hammock style. I also like that it is fitted to the seat, so I still have space for storage when we go on our camping trips.

I wish I had originally went with this one instead of the hammock style. I didn't due to cost, and 4 hammock ones later, I ended up with this one.

Edit: one time I was transporting a stew, and set it in the backseat. I guess some of it had spilled while driving, and I thought for sure it had leaked through, and made a mess of the seat. Once I spot cleaned the cover, I took it off, and to my surprise not a single drop went through the material to my seats. Definitely a+ quality for accidents!
