Does anyone have any advice on troubleshooting the backup cam? I installed a camera and plugged it into the prewired harness that's in the tailgate that was connect to a blank plastic placeholder for where the camera sits. When I pop it in reverse, it's just a black screen.

My current set up is running a Kenwood DMX906S stereo with the iDataLink Maestro RR & the T01 harness.

Truck info: 2011, double cab, v6, prerunner, automatic, no JBL.

The only thing I can think of is to pull out the stereo & maestro, double check all of the wiring, or reflash the RR. I'm not too sure what else to check unless anyone has any tips?

Sounds like you are missing the wire hookup to the reverse light. Call Crutchfield and see where it hooks up to with your unit.

Did you buy an aftermarket 12 VDC Camera?

The Factory harness doesn't supply 12 VDC to the camera. It gets 6 VDC from the Rear View Mirror on the stock harness.

If you have a 12 volt camera it will not work.

As far as the reverse wire goes, I have wired everything from the table with KENWOOD reference on the second page but there’s a section that shows reverse camera with 4 wires (blue/yellow, black, yellow, brown) & yellow plug input to stereo. I don’t really have that because the truck is pre-wired for a camera in the tailgate right?

when I throw it into reverse, the screen does change but it’s just black.

As far as knowing if the camera is 12v or 6V, I’m not too sure. The connection fit into the factory connector in the back. My rear view mirror is attached to the windshield so it’s not one of those that has that mini screen like I’ve seen on other models.

I think I understand what’s going on now. I need to complete step 2 of the wiring diagram. Based on my pictures (I apologize for bad quality), the T01 came with the yellow RCA, a blue/yellow & black wired connector, and the 4 wires mentioned above (blue/yellow, black, brown, yellow).

RCA goes to the “rear view camera” port. The blue/yellow & black connector plugs in with the main harness (2-pin connectors). So lastly that leaves where I need to connect those 4 open wires into the truck.

Does anyone know where those 4 wires go? I assumed earlier since everything is pre-wired, the camera would also be included in the stereo wiring area but it seems as though I will need to hunt to connect whatever “see wire chart” means for step 2 to find the source wires from the truck.

So I went ahead and wired up based on this other forum I found. I went with the below list of wires based on the YouTube video:

    TO1 to Tacoma
    Blue/Yellow - Black (camera voltage +)
    Yellow - Red (Video +)
Brown - taped black breaded (video -)?
    Black - white (ground -)?

the video from the other thread mentioned to combine the taped black breaded wire & white wire with your camera negative. Since I basically had 1:1 ratio of wires, I used my best guess on which to combine.

I popped it in reverse but had the same affect. There is no incoming video.

While I did look for the wiring diagrams for your year, the t01 manual lists it as “not optional”

You say, you wired the camera it off the existing wiring?
If so, maybe the wiring diagrams for the 2012, which is listed in the T01 manual, will help?

Ok so based on your reference chart below is what I have currently vs. proposed correction:

TO1 to Tacoma (currently set up)
    Blue/Yellow - Black (camera voltage +)
    Yellow - Red (Video +)
Brown - taped black breaded (video -)
    Black - white (ground -)

    TO1 to Tacoma (corrected)
    Blue/Yellow - Black (camera voltage +)
    Yellow - Red (Video +)
    Brown - white (video -)
Black - taped black (ground -)?

I’ll give this a try and see if I have any luck and report back with findings. I’ll also confirm which pin connector & positions. I’m hoping there isn’t much of a difference between 2011 & 2012.

If this still doesn’t work, I’ll have to follow up to see if the camera is 12v or 6v with the site I bought it from or see if I can find any details about it. Hopefully I won’t have to buy another one lol

Purple wire(reverse light) in photo of your right hand ties into the red and white in driver left kick panel, the way mine is.
