I have my camera wired to my stereo that turns on the camera when the truck is put in reverse. Want to add a switch so I can click it to turn on the backup camera on.

I'm assuming that when the truck is put in reverse that is what tirggers the camera to go on. So something is sending that signal to the cameral

Is there a way to add a switch to trick the camera the truck is in reverse? Trying to locate the wire for it.

Anyone do this? I've seen the kits, but I already have most of the work done can't imagine splicing a few wires onto a switch is that diffiicult and should save me about $180.

Just need to know the location of the reverse wiring. Maybe bybass a relay with the switch linked to it to fool the camera.

Here is where I tapped into in my 2005 for a reverse trigger wire.

What did you link that Red/White too to make the switch work?

I found where the relay is located on the passenger side of the transmission.

I was adding an aftermarket headunit so I needed a some sort of trigger to tell the HU that the truck was in reverse. I can just select in the HU to turn the camera on whenever I want.

I realized after posting that this isn't exactly what you're looking for.

It's close though. Just gotta find the wire that the relay uses.

Or actually how much power the relay uses and just tap something with the same power.

There is no relay on the side of the transmission. That is the Park Neutral safety switch I assume that is what you are seeing there.

I'm pretty sure there is a mod on here that says how to do the Camera on anytime. I'll see if I can find it.

I added a switch to my back up. You just need to add power to the input signal
I even wired it to my Switch-Pro

Cool, yeah I figured all I need to do was add power to it.

You can add a switch but you will need a diode too. Otherwise the 12 volts will feedback and make the truck think it's in reverse when it is not. You get lots of colorful lights on your dash. Here is a schematic I made a while ago.

Edit...you only need 1 diode. The second one in this drawing serves a different purpose. Ignore the one closest to the switch.

Is your camera a factory 6V or aftermatket 12V? If you have an aftermarket camera that uses 12V, it should not be that hard. Tap into radio switched Ignition 12V to a rocker switch, then to the camera. Bypass the current reverse trigger wire altogether. When you turn the switch on, it feeds power to the camera and the display turns on.
