There is a bad smell almost like a sewage smell kind of coming from my truck. You can only smell it when I'm driving with the windows down but when they are up and it I'm just sitting inside the truck you can't smell anything. Iv been told it could be my catalytic converter going bad. Does anybody have any idea what the cause of the smell could be? I haven't spilled anything in my truck it just came about randomly one day driving back from school

your battery could be bad or it may be getting over charged which would smell like rotten eggs (sulfur).

it's either a dead mouse in your cabin filter. or a dead cat in your engine bay. could also be a battery going bad or a catalytic converter.

Yeah, Tacomas aren't the most "ideal" when it comes to hauling dead bodies around.

+1 on checking the battery. I've heard tell that differential lube can get pretty funky and a bad smell may be the rear end leaking. Have you smelled your rear end lately? Noticed any leaks in the drive?

Cat - my friend had that happen to his car in high school - smells like partially digested, putrid beef stroganoff, milk farts, and a week old hard boiled egg. Earthy lol :poking:

Back in the day I would have said your driving on the New Jersey Turnpike around Newark

If you can only smell it driving unless you have some major holes in the firewall .

Most any smell from your vehicle is pushed by the movement of air back behind the vehicle.

I wonder if your not smelling exhaust from the vehicles in front .

I never smelled anything like Raw sewage coming from a vehicle

Live near any paper mills or sewage treatment plants

You're lucky - those catalytic converters can stink it up. +1 for the paper mill and sewage treatment plants. A low spot near a freeway interchange nearby also gets pretty frothy. One spot that has its own unique bad smell is a dog food factory in east LA. That place is overflowing in powerful odors on hot days and when the wind is right it can fill your lungs with an intense breathe.
