The system is so messed up. This country was built on the idea of capitalism! Which means that when one company fails another one rises by buying out the other co. I do not see why the U.S. should bail out the auto industry at the expense of us, the tax payers! At the very least I think the big 3 should suck it up reduce bonuses, sell their assets (private jets and all) reduce inventory and check their business plan! Why should we bail them out!? Ultimately, the U.S. taxpayer (you, your children, and our grandchildren) will end up paying for the poor business practices of these companies!

Exactly! What about the fact that these companies know they can afford to make poor business decisions because they can rely on taxpayer dollars in the future? Chrysler has come back again for a bailout.

Copied and pasted from another thread:

Short answer, No. Long answer, No. The big 3 are corrupt, and we as tax payers don't need to pay for this B-S.

I'm getting tired of watching the news to listen to every damn group w/ their hands out. The economy is going to "hell in a hand-basket", and all the government can do is give out billions to companies that are going to freaking fail anyway. LET THEM FAIL, THAT'S CAPITALISM.

Being Toyota Tacoma owner, I've pretty much giving up on the Big 3. The bottom line to these damn companies is that their product SUCKS compared to the "Foreign" market. But the "Foreign" vehicles are more american than the "American" vehicles anymore. It's all a dog and phony show to get our money. It's an outrage!!!

I'm done venting, sorry if I've offended anyone.

We are in the age (or soon will be) when Obama takes over. Everyone will share the losses together, and this will be just one of the examples of the many to come. Unfortunately, the profits aren't shared the same way. And my opinions of unions are not that high either. They decrease the drive for competition. The quality of the vehicles suffer in order to make the salaries for the workers in addition to the big boys getting the 7 figure bonuses. They will substitute a plastic clip for one that is metal in order to save .$15 (x the number of vehicles produced) and rely on the money they will generate when the part needs to be replaced.

Americans are greedy. We are a rich country, where everyone wants to prosper. They do not want immigrants coming to take their jobs, nor do they want to ship the labor to other countries. It was only a matter of time before this caught up. The one thing that everyone agrees on is that there must be consiquences to a bail out, but nobody wants it to directly affect anyone but the big, rich execs. Sorry people, but I doubt it will happen.

Going back to the sharing concept - we will all share in the losses, whether it's a bailout or not.

I have had two Fords in my life and now carry my first Toyota. I bought a hybrid Ford with my wife a small while back. but I will never buy from the Big Three again. They lost my respect as major competitors in the automobile industry. They were in business for several generations. And now they don't mind tarnishing their reputation asking me for a bailout.
We know Congress will give into their pressures while they cite doom and gloom as a consequence. Hell congress gave 700 billion to corrupt banksters with no strings attached...and look what happened...LOL!

Give me a tenth of the salary of the top Ford guy and the power to reorganize (especially with the unions) and I can make Ford the top selling and best quality truck offered.

It's all about the money whores out there. How many Ford exec's that are making 6 figures actually contribute to the quality/price ratio and can justify their salary? I'll call out every one of you if you dare step up to the plate. Your content with what you are paid to do and have no balls to change the system. Why would you? Your living better than most? And you claim to have the knowledge and know how to assist in running a top America company. You scared little cats. You should be ashamed for yourselves and hope that legally assisted suicide will be promoted by our new found president.

Oops, did I just say that out loud?

OMG that is clever-says it all! Unfortunately it's fukking TRUE too:( it forgot to mention the money I lost OWNING the previous two pieces of shit trying to keep them just operating NORMALLY!!! It drove me to buy a Toyota! I went from spending thousands in chasing down flaws and bugs in those vehicles to THIS truck of the last 8 years, on which I have spent NOTHING but maintainance! Think I don't wish this truck was American-hell yes I do-we pioneered the automobile and that is woven through my blood from childhood. But I, an avg guy with middle class funds, was so SPANKED by the horrible costs of those other vehicles I owned, I had to get wise! Dodge is a fantastic example of what American car companies think of us-slap together a piece of shit, throw a blingy muscular eye-candy face on it and they'll buy the hell out of it. No-we ALL wised up.

We, as taxpayers and Toyota owners, should make all the execs read the Toyota Way books.

i dont feel like helping to pay for their bailouts but i suppose thinking only about the company and the higher ups and bad decision making isnt really fair to all the workers and all the industries that make these companies actually run. I think of all the smaller companies supplying parts and machines for the factories, advertising companies, small dealerships in my small town... and all the people who run them. Should any of the 3 not pull through so many other companies would land on the rocks too, it would trickle through hundreds. I believe this domino effect would do so much damage to our already maimed economy that a bailout in the long run would be to our benifit. It would never happen but if toyota was hurtin i would send em a personal check immediatly (just dont cash it till friday).

Your heart is in the right place, but why would you "send a check" to a corporation like Toyota if they were hurting? This company already charges a lot more for their vehicles and repairs than the Big three...perhaps resale value makes up for it, but not by much. This business isn't a charity.

Send your check to non-profit organizations or charities. Basically give to people that really need the help! Giving to Toyota is like wanting to help them maintain a status while there's people is worse shape.

Wow some of you sound pissed! :p
But then again I don't blame u. The democratic/republican congress says you guys have to take up the slack of the banks, finance companies, insurance companies (AIG), and automakers from now on.
These bailouts are setting precedence that large corps can now rely on you. You're going to see tax hikes. All these handouts needs to be paid for and government has the luxury of burdening taxpayers as much as they like.

its unfortunate that the bail out is only for America, that means our government will as all ways follow your lead and give them even more money to help with Canadian operations. boo I say let them sink. It sucks if you work in those factories, but there are lots of business of all sizes that are hurting because of this melt down... this bail out will only go so far, people still have to buy those cars and I for one will never own another domestic piece of shit.
