That beach is ~1 mile from the highway, no extra gas is needed. I carry an extra dump can for "just in case" when going to remote locations chasing race cars. The big dump can in the photo is race fuel (114 octane I believe) for the race cars.

But even if you don't leave the highway, it's good practice to fill up your tank when you're only half full. There's always a chance that the next gas station might be out of fuel when you get there. Always be mindful of your fuel gauge in Baja. Years ago I spent an extra day in Loreto because the gas station was waiting for delivery the following day (I was empty). All in, Loreto is a pretty nice place to be stranded, so no complaints. Our hotel there:

The beaches in these photos from Stuck are less than 20 miles from gas stations. I do carry extra when I travel in the Seven Sisters, but otherwise it's not needed.

When driving in Baja DO NOT become complacent. Surprises happen. This Tacoma driver hit a curve way too fast and ended up in the desert -- he was lucky that there happened to be people around to assist.

For anyone seeking more 'Baja'... besides my website (which is loaded with maps, photos, links, travel details) www.vivabaja.com I also have two Facebook groups you can join.

One is specific for Baja's many historic sites (missions, vistas, cave paintings, old mines, fossils): The other is about Baja travel and camping locations/ activities plus any Viva Baja website discussion:

Looking forward to the 2023 Baja 1000, it's being run in reverse for the first time. It starts in La Paz and finishes in Ensenada. Yep, I'll be there.

We were in Villa Ignacio Zaragoza, Baja Sur for a 1000 and bumped into some cops who'd run out of gas. They asked us for 40$ for gas, but we compromised by dumping 11 gallons into their truck. They were super appreciative.

We think Baja is amazing... and it just survived a hurricane which wiped out highways and washed away homes! You don't hear any of it on U.S. news, but I have been posting photos and video clips on my VivaBaja Facebook page, if you want to see the destruction: 306524116_10224554206516536_916640617956_e92c7fcee9f79d8dddb6c331938b09c9972fb171.jpg

Wow. How long do you think it will take to rebuild all that? I’m guessing there’s drive arounds for now though?

Yes, detours come quickly, once the flash flood waters stop flowing! All paved roads should be passable, perhaps just one lane wide, today or very soon. The longer waits will be the remote villages, served by dirt roads, as all the fill-dirt was washed away, leaving sharp rocks. Here is the once drivable road to Los Burros, a fishing village between Loreto and La Paz... also known as Ensenada Cortés:
