hey all. Have an opportunity to get a bakflip fibermax at a super good price. Unfortunately, it is for a short bed 2nd gen. I've got a 3rd gen short bed. From what I'm seeing, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. It sits inside of the bedsides, which have identical measurements between both generations. Didn't get any good feedback from bakflip when I asked apart from "they are two different part numbers". Any input? Don't want to make the drive if it won't fit.

Did you ever find out if the 2nd Gen version would work on 3rd Gen, or did you end up buying a 3rd Gen specific?

I've gotten a third gen bakflip g2 to work on a 2nd gen. How they each mount to the truck is different from what I've found. The 2nd gen uses the factory rails while the 3rd gen moves the rails.

    how so?

Because I'm parting with my second gen and the Bakflip also, my brother has a 3rd gen and was wondering the same thing as you.

The only difference is that next to the cab on a third gen is high by about an inch than the second gen for mounting. I had to add a piece of angle aluminum to fill that gap. And the mounting brackets for the thrid gen backflip actually relocate the mounting bars were as you have to use the mounting bars on second gen. I also had to space the mounting brackets so that it would latch stronger because if I just mounting the brackets to the bed the top would barely latch. So I believe the tops the same it's just the mounting hardware that's different. If I remember I would have had to buy the rails to make it work without modifying everything that I did.

Do you have any pictures? I was thinking on getting the Bakflip too on my 2nd gen but didn’t like the idea of losing my rail

The back bar just barely won't fit because of the hold down knobs for the top but I haven't missed that bar as much as I would the side bars. I know it doesn't look like much of a gap but it's pretty big without the angle.
