Hi guys I picked up my 2017 DC OR last week and after doing a lot of reading on here I'm ready to pull the trigger on a BAKFLIP MX4 Toneau cover. Was wondering what company is the best one to buy from (price and customer service)
    Thanks in advance.

I just ordered mine from tonneaufactoryoutlet, I got 800 shipped to CA for the long bed version. Ordered it on the 15th and it hasn't shipped yet so that bugs me a bit, but oh well.

14 Tacoma Double Cab: BAKFLIP MX4 Professionally installed by certified dealer. Leaked heavily. Been back to the installer two more times and situation improved but only slightly. BAKFLIP tech offered guidance and it still leaks front corners, back sides, along first hinge. Per BAKFLIP it's been calked, stuffed with sealant material, rails adjusted... If you want to keep anything dry don't buy this product. The design just does not work.

Thanks for the reply. From doing my research many people have been very satisfied with this top. Mine is a 2017 so that may make a difference. They are know to have some slight leaks which I'm okay with. Someone also posted a technique using RTV was helpful in fixing any leaks.

CSROGERS6, I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing this. BAK Industries makes an excellent product, but there has been many reports of issues such as yours. I have personally owned the Fibermax as well as the MX4 and was fortunate enough to not have any issues with leaking. I would recommend calling BAK Industries directly at 818-365-9000 and asking to speak with Frankie or James and see what they can recommend. They shoudl've sent you a complete new model by now rather than trying to patch it up.

    Good luck!

I installed the MX4 today. Very happy with the way the install went and the finished product. Won't know about leaks till it Rains.

Nice! I installed mine yesterday as well. I did a leak test with a hose and frankly it's not as bad as some folks say. It leaked around the tailgate sides a bit at the bulkhead. I think a tailgate seal and maybe some rtv upfront would take care of it. How did you run your drain tubes? I'm not sure I like the stock location.

I just let the hoses hang loose for now. Haven't made up my mind where to run em yet.

@Katopop ....just wondering how your liking your MX4? did you install it yourself? how easy was it? more importantly, has it rained and has it leaked?? would it be easy for a punk to use a coat hanger to open it?

I bought a solid fold 2.0 for my 2015 TRD PRO and it's OK but not great.....I've only had it for 3 months but it leaks a little and quite frankly I don't like the look.....it's not flush mounted. I want to sell it and there are too many choices but I think the MX4 is great for the price.....if it works like they say....LOL

I love my MX4. I really like how it sits flush with the Bed. I'm not real picky about leakage and to be honest I haven't checked for that. I can see where it might leak and it's because of the way Toyota's Bed Rail is designed and not the Top's fault. As far as being able to open it with a coat hanger, yeah I can see where that can happen. I can also see that it is easily fixable by screwing a metal plate in front of the cable. Hey, if they want to get in, they will. It just keeps honest people honest. Hope this helps.

Anyone know if the rails or kayak carrier on the bakflip site fits the mx4? Seems like it may only fit the “CS” series?

Was trying to determine options for putting stuff on top of the mx4 but am coming up short on my research.

I've been searching for the same thing. I'm not finding anything out there for the MX4 or any other folding cover. Here's a thread on a custom build that seems like it does what you want:

won't fit. there are only a few tonneau covers that are designed to work with bed racks. retrax and pace edwards make retractable tonneaus with t-slot rails, but you'll need to get something custom made for the mx4.

You should. Check out KB Voodoo racks they sell brackets that work with with bed covers I’m not sure if they will work with the mx4 but worth a look (im almost positive they do)
