It's an 89 Toyota Pickup. I got some stuff done to it.. FJ axles going under it soon.
Lifted 5 lugs are even worst, so watch out..I've seen it happen NUMEROUS times on CT.

    Just saying..

As the original poster - I don't mind resurrecting this thread.

Over a year ago I posted here about a ball joint blowout - well it happened again today.

Fortunately my wife and I were slowing down around 10mph, when this time the left front (previously right front) blew out.

Fortunately it wasn't as bad - but it's towed off to the mechanic and will have to wait until after the 4th for an estimate.

What years do the recall cover? I think its only 01-04...
Edit: obviously not 01-04 only.. since the op has a 97 lol

I had them all replaced, and the first time they also damaged the tie rod, and brakes - so all that had to be replaced.

I don't know much about vehicle repair - but that is what they had to replace.

Your a 5 lug aren't you? I'm surprised I don't see even a speck of grease anywhere. Was it totally dry?

    :eek::eek:

I've seen several instances of the LBJ failure, but both?? Did you have a dealer replace them?

Had mine replaced a little over a year ago.

That was my exact response. Luckily, very luckily, it occurred at a brisk 2mph just after pulling away from a stop sign. My pics are on my phone. I'm trying to figure out how to get them onto the website.

You're lucky. My right side ball joint gave up the ghost while doing 70 mph on the freeway

I was working a lot back then and didn't have the time to fix it. Had to pay my local Toyota mechanic big $$$. Are they hard to replace and when do they go out? Every 100,000 mi.?

I signed into the Toyota owners website and my ball joints were replaced in 2005 with 17K miles on my truck under the recall. It also showed warranty work that was done it. It did only list 1 qty as being replaced, which scares me a bit.
    BTW I have a 2004 Prerunner

How does one check if their taco is under any recall?

cool I check online and there was a ball-joint recall for 2001 tacomas - what I have, will Tacoma take care of it still? Nothing has happened yet but if its a possibility, I'd like it to be fixed now before something like this happens.

Same here, just went and checked. Since I had my frame replaced I was already in the system and it says no recalls for my 01.

im kinda disappointed, my LBJ's are spewing grease, but are still tight. Probably time to replace them.
