I can’t sit up fully, but I wasn’t expecting that I would be able to. Even friends that have built their own platforms with toppers like a LEER or ARE have the same issues unless they sprung for the one like the ARE MX which rises above the cab.

Yeah that makes sense. I've always wanted a platform, and this looks amazing, but I also love the ability to fully sit up and read, get dressed, etc. when sleeping back there. But if I do end up with a platform, I'll go straight to this product. Great job by OP, this looks fantastic.

    It is all trade-offs.
    • A soft topper is light. A cab high shell looks more streamlined. But limited headroom.
    • And mid-rise of high rise gives more headroom, but weighs a bit more. And lets be honest, they can sometimes look a little dorky.
I had a cab high shell on a ranger in the 90's and hated the lack of headroom to the point I stopped sleeping in it. I put an ARE MX mid-rise on my Tacoma. Put on a Prinsu rack on the cab to level out the side view profile and of course for rack space. For me, much more enjoyable camping experience with the extra headroom.

Sounds like a good setup. Got any pics of the side of your truck and a pic of the rear open with the bambeds setup ?

I usually camp solo so I don't have the bambeds but really like the idea. If my wife ever wants to start going camping with me I will consider them. Again, great concept which is why I follow this thread.

I just use a roll-a-cot in the back. 3 minutes to setup and tear down, compact storage, light, and very comfortable since you are sort of suspended.

Edited to add two side images as requested. The angle from the front doesn't look too dorky because the Prinsu sort of smooths it out. I dislike how it looks from the rear side.

So we found a setup with the boards that allow you to have a built in chair in the bed. Just use the bed tie down cleats to hold the board in place leaned back against the folded tonneau cover.

We are going to add seat cushions from our lawn chairs to make them comfy. Haven't tried the rocker setup yet, but know that it will not work in the bed of the truck. Too wide.

Got these in Saturday and finally got to test them out today! Really good setup. I love the versatility. If I need more space at the tailgate end of the bed I simply stack that first piece up on the middle row. So glad I did this simple bin system rather than a heavy duty decked system that's a pain to get out. Sometimes I need the full height to use this for truck things and these bambeds allow that. Great work!

I carpeted one side of them using the squares that bambeds linked to on his website. Came out really good, but it was a minor project.

Put the bambeds to work this weekend on a family beach camping trip to Leo Carrillo SB. Took the trailer since it was my whole family camping. Just used two slats so that I can have more height available near the tailgate to drop random loose items and our fridge onto the bed floor. The dog crate, big cooler full of beer and ice, and 80lb dog was up on the two slats. Also about 7 gallons of water and a few loose item like a skateboard and beach umbrella. All the chairs and boogie boards went underneath the boards. Love the organization of a bed platform and the modular options that bambeds gives you. They seem sturdy as hell and it was nice having carpet.

    Few more pics for attention!

Seeing our GSD watch over the kids is pretty awesome. She was herding them down by the shore when the waves would come

I've got an Aussie (avatar). He does the same. Once he's been in a situation for about 10 minutes he determines who's who and where they should be. It's amazing. Very cool to see.

I know how it is. We have two German Shepherds, Diesel and Daisy, and they try to herd the wife and I everywhere we go. Our kids are are all grown and out of the house now, so they only have us around.

But our last German Shepherd was the same way. The one time we did get her to Myrtle Beach, she tried hell to keep us all out of the ocean. She didn't like water unless it was to drink. She really didn't like it when I picked her up and carried her into the ocean for a lil swim...

Don't hesitate to buy a set! We love them. From the divided storage solution, like above. To the bench setup we watch sunsets with all the time. They serve way more than one purpose.
