So I woke up this morning planning to drive 3 hours to big bear to ride my bike. Go to start my truck and it's completely dead. Had no problem the previous morning starting and no problems ever really. I knew it was as around the time to replace as its been five years since I bought my truck. Ended up jumping it and things were good. I packed some tools in case I needed to buy a battery in big bear.

Get to big bear shut the truck off and not able to start, completely dead. Go to napa auto store and they only have a 24f with around 50 cca less than the oem battery. I bought it just so I could get home(can give it to a family member later).

Will it hurt my truck if I use this battery for say a week until I purchase a new battery?

Also I wanted to get a good battery as a replacement for my upcoming electrical additions, not much just mostly lighting. Any suggestions that work fine with the alternator? I have the tow package so it should be a bigger alternator yes?

    TIA

No it should not hurt the truck .

Your sure it was the battery ??

It just got to the point it would no longer hold a charge or a bad cell ??

Had it tested when you bought the battery??

Myself I have had good luck with Deka (East Penn Manufacturing) a few miles from the factory.

The Interstate dealer is even closer he brings then right to the shop and drops them off

    No real problems with either

This was the first time it wouldn't start with no notice. I jumped it, drove around 3 hours thinking the alternator would give it a charge. Turned it off and its completely dead. I got the battery load tested and its was done. It was almost 5 years old though.

Found a good thread about the 24f vs 27f. Im going to stick with the 24f for now. I live in San Diego so it never gets colder than 50 degrees here haha.

As a side note I googled searched this on my computer and it was the third or fourth link. Didn't point me to this when I searched on the TW bar.

I agree. In my situation, the Deka brand has held up longer than all of the others I've used.

If you're willing to spend the money, I'm happy with my Optima Yellow top so far (only a few months in, though). Just did some decent duration winch pulls last weekend without any noticable fall-off with the engine (and alternator) just at idle speed.

My truck came with the Optima Yellow as well, but over the years I've just bought the off the shelf Interstate or Autozone battery. Living in California the CCA won't make that huge of a difference. It just doesn't get that cold on the coast.

I went x2power 31agm. Fits fine and is one of the biggest, strongest batteries you can buy. Similar would be northstar, the old diehard platinum, xs. mix of a starting/deep cycle battery.

I rack my brain over this whenever its battery time, what i've found is no matter what i put in seems to last. Todays batteries all seem very equal in quality. There's some outliers either way, but the middle of the pack is all the same
