Haha yeah, I'm lazy and horrible at writing soooo.

If I had a personal photographer that could document everything I do I would love that! Once I start I'm full speed no stopping I hardly ever even think to take pictures.

If there's one thing I'll take away from this build of the year shit, it is a new found enthusiasm towards documenting the build. I am going to start a can back project I plan on doing the whole thing myself minus a couple aluminum welds. And I will do my best to document it better than I have in the past.

Started on a proof of concept for a project I've had in my head for a while now. I want to build a canvas soft top for the bed of the truck! With the way my bed cage is set up I can't run a softtopper or anyThing like that, so custom it is. I grabbed a stick of 3/4 EMT and a bender to do some testing.

The "main" hoops will look something like this, ignore the passenger side that was my first time with a conduit bender, got pretty close on the second try! I measured and marked the center line with tape so I have a constant reference.
    IMG_8904.jpg

Next I used the end of the 10' stick to run a test for how I plan to bolt it together and to find the angle I want for the rear of the top. Imagine this piece extending back almost to the tailgate with 2 more main hoops on top to create the structure.

    IMG_8906.jpg

I've heard welding this stuff is not the greatest so a simple bolt together design will do and should be well within my capabilities. I flattened one end in my bench vise and drills holes through both pieces. Not the most elegant but it will work!

    IMG_8907.jpg

Made a cardboard template I can use to make sure all of the hoops are the same, the bender has reference marks to make it easy to re align if I need to adjust bends.

    IMG_8908.jpg

This is how I plan to attach it to my bed, some 1.5 x 1.5 aluminum angle iron, some aluminum tubing welded to that to locate the conduit and a dentet for easy on/off

    IMG_8910.jpg

On the outside of that angle iron I will use button snap screws so the fabric will snap into place and also sew Velcro straps so it can easily be attached to the hoops and support bars.
