Sub'd for when my inferno arrives. Any idea if inferno is any more difficult to match than other colors? I'm curious if the application is different as well. BTW, all of the grills done in this thread is top notch.

Remote start, husky weather beaters, bed mat, avs in channel and bugflector II, Undercover SE tonneau(on order), neoprene seat covers, interior leds, removed badges and replaced decals with all black. 20% front windows, 5% on rest, 5% sun strip.
I did it on my gen1 and didn't clear and it peeled in a couple spots, but only on the chrome ring. That was with no adhesion promoter, just cheap flat black bumper spray. The middle part, that has the black plastic, still looked like it did when I first applied (besides a couple minor dings from rocks) after 3 years. I am hoping to get 2-3 years at least, I'll replace the grill by then if it isn't looking good still.

Got word my truck should be here this week so I ordered my supplies this morning. I'm going to color match the bezel (inferno) and then paint and coat the grill black but leave the two horizontal components chrome as opposed to color matching them (along with leaving the emblem as is). We'll see how it turns out.

Look on here, and I'll bet you can find someone selling the inferno bezel's already so you don't even have to paint them.

This is by far the best dip design... Paint the grill black and leave the two horizontal lines and emblem in chrome... How is it holding up to the environment? Any chips or peeling?

What fun is that? I'm going to do my usual thing which is to attempt to spend time and money trying to do it correctly, ultimately screw it up, then pay someone else to do it correctly which is what I should have done the first time.

This weekend is actually looking like it might be pretty nice. I may give it a shot if I have time.

Knew I wanted to color match the bezel to reduce the overall chrominess of the grillso I went ahead and did that. I'm thinking I'll paint the grill black but leave the horizontal pieces and logo chrome. Couldn't be happier with the outcome. Paint looks great.

Impossible! Says some guy who works at a body shop and doesn't want to do prep work.

I only have a few thousand on mine yet, but good as gold so far. I don't suspect you will have any more chips than would have occurred on the original grille if done right

My Inferno should be here in about a month. I wasn't even thinking about doing anything with the grill until I saw this thread and all of the nice work that people have done to make theirs unique. I'm thinking Inferno around the perimeter, grill blacked out and the cross bars and Toyota emblem Inferno. I may have to photoshop it first to make sure it's what I want, but I think the emblem in Inferno would make the whole grill pop.

I like it. Lots of people here on this forum hate them. Especially people in California. In Louisiana, I hunt and fish. We have a lot of briars and tight trails (no mountains, no big rocks/boulders). It seems to protect my front end from scratches and damage from small limbs and stuff. I push things out of the way with it all the time. It's pretty sturdy (bolted to the frame). My son has a 2007 Tacoma with one and hit someone from behind. It damaged his bull bar but not the truck. We spent $150 and replaced it. So in my opinion, it's worth having.

It's the bull bar off of my 2014 that I traded in. I bought it on Amazon about 1.5 years ago. It's a generic brand- $150. The brackets were about 1-2 inches too short due to the front bumper sticking out! I was able to connect 1 bolt and tightened it real tight, then added a large washer on the second bolt to hold on to the brackets. It's pretty tight, I couldn't move it. I also had to cut 1/4" grooves in the bottom plastic spoiler for the brackets.
