I have had them both... Cig. lighter ones pump 2 psi per minute... so up to 9 min. per tire!

Battery connect ones are 3 times faster (6 psi per minute)... 3 min. per tire to go from 14 psi to 32 psi.

I'm heading down to Gulf Shores, AL next week. Does anybody know of any good spots on the beach you can drive on? I'm not looking for anything too adventurous, mostly just to have a lil fun and take some nice pictures. Also, are there any laws I need to be concerned about?

What a joke ... and what was it 80% Fords? What is it that these folks don't like about letting air out of their tires? How can so many (who obviously drove down that beach) not come to the aid tothe others with the simple advice to deflate?

    Thanks for the good laugh!

Err, you obviously never had chance to be around some of those ramps. The sand gets kicked by hundred cars, dries and falls unpacked. As soon as you step on it your foot sinks few inches. Plus its a sand thats been rounded by wind and water. So even if you are air down there is not much traction there. You are driving on bunch off tiny ball bearings. Only way you dont get stuck is when you have all four wheels working for you. Choice of tires is important too but Front/rear lockers are the only item that will make sure you will drive, stop, and start again on that sand.
Also on busy weekend you could spend all day trying to help people out (thats how many gets stuck on those beaches) but we have to remember towing is source of income for locals so let them make good money. :D

    its $250 - $350 a tow there

Interesting that there are dozens (hundreds?) of cars in the photo parked along the high tide line that got there okay? That is why I would guess that a few newbees didn't know to deflate. How is it the park rangers don't close the beach with so much getting stuck and tearing up the sand? I only wish we had such beaches in California! We only have one to drive on (Pismo)... or do as I do, and go to Baja!

I wouldn't say you need a Locker to drive on the sand. I have driven at the OBX with my open/open 4x4 many times and never even gotten remotely close to being stuck. Airing down is THE MOST IMPORTANT part of driving that type of sand. I usually air down to about 20ish psi. It seems to be low enough to where I can still drive on the street air'ed down and not have to constantly air down/air up.

I know people can drive with out lockers, I had seen 2wd's there. But lockers help a lot regardless if one airs down or not.

I can see a zillion cars on that beach that aren't stuck, so my comments are for the ones in the video who are or who can't even pull another car out. 12 psi would be twice as good as 18, or even 16. There is a big jump in floatation below 15 psi. But, what do I know... I only drive a 'stock' vehicle on the beach with nobody around to help me (because if I get stuck, I can figure out pretty fast how to get unstuck, or the ocean swallows my truck). It is not about me, it is about my Tacoma in my posts, but I guess you still don't understand my accent?
