Why not just wire up a window unit to run through the beer window?

Part number 2 is the thermosistor. Less than 10 bucks. May order one for a prototype and see what I can do.

On a more serious note though, has anyone ever thought about dumping the Tundra's system in? If possible, I presume it's made for a larger cab and as such would easily cool the taco

I get 44-45 at the vent, driving or at idle all day long....BUT I'm in N. Cali, with almost ZERO Humidity and only about 6-8 weeks of HOT weather, upper 90's to the 105 range.

I am enjoying the heck out of this thread. I know nothing about AC but reading this is learning.

Also this info may be helpful to the cause.

Notice how when your motor is warmed up, with the temp selector on the coldest setting with out the AC, notice the air is much warmer than the outside air? I believe this is because of the heat from the motor is making its way to the fresh air intakr under the cowling. I wonder if more sealing/weather stripping could help with this. My 2005 tundra with the same motor as the taco does not suffer from this.

One thing that may help OPs overall comfort in the truck (slightly) is insulating. Full insulation means doors and roof possibly floor as well. Much like insulating a house, if you make the cab more efficient at maintaining temp, your AC doesn’t have to work as hard to cool the cab. The biggest flaw I’ve seen at pursuing full insulation has always been the glass. There’s no way that I’ve found to insulate glass effectively enough to make a “holy cow” difference without completely covering it with insulation. You’ll still have heat penetration even with ceramic tint. Although from my experience, insulation will make a noticeable difference, however slight. I know this isn’t what OP is after but it may help reach his goal.

Good luck with your original project, OP.

What about mounting a larger/thicker condenser with more surface area over the fins and tubes? Might have more efficient cooling especially with a pusher fan?

I always did feel like our system took a bitch amount of refrigerant and always had my suspicions of the condenser unit being whimpy due to how thin it is.

If we could find a larger condenser, not only would we be able to utilize more refrigerant space, but we would be able to have better cooling power.

Btw, I write this as I am sweating my balls off in the cab of my truck, WITH the AC on. I'm super pissed off about how trash this system performs at idle.

I didn't think about the increased internal volume of the system, that would also provide additional cooling just using more refrigerant to carry the heat off...

I was thinking along the lines of installing a small water reservoir and windshield washer pump and spraying a mist on the condenser when needed.

Yes but that would only help for so long and would require frequent maintenance as well as consistent button pressing to mist it. Lol.

35% tint windows, OEM black running boards, OEM black roof rack, Foglight mod, De-badged & Sockmonkey Horns decals added, Two ammo box storage units (removed), 110 volt & 12 volt outlets for back seat area, EGR Slimline inchannel visors (all windows), Fold-A-Cover G4, Tonneau, Bedmat.
For information, most ac systems are designed for the 42~45° range. Any colder and the evaporator will freeze. Reason is that the coil is 10~20° colder than the air temp.
To get 33~35° air you need a low temp system and the A/C's in our Tacos are high temp systems.
Also since the auto industry went with R134a refrigerant the performance went down. R12 systems were better handling humidity.

Actually, this would help. You'd be limited by how much water you can carry but it would help.
