Other than the fact that I wouldn't get the full use rear shocks, is there any reason I can't install a bed cage with the stock leaf springs? I'd like to spread this out over a couple weekends if possible. I typically underestimate the time it takes me to finish projects so I'm trying to not get in over my head with this.

Nope, go for it but I personally don't see the point. How you set up the shocks is determined by your leafs, as they have a close relationship with one another. You may end up having to redo parts of it. I'm talking about where they hit full bump.

There’s no reason to. Don’t do it.

What is the reason not to?

I'm not looking to take the truck off road in between I'm just looking to get to work on Monday if the install takes me too long. I'm just trying to keep my options open.

If you’re running stock leafs there’s no point. Only reason for the bed cage is to mount longer shocks.

Are you installing a SUA kit - if so install the springs first and you can still drive the truck if you don't do anything crazy while you aren't running shocks.

That's sketch as shit. He is the classic example of the old saying, "if so and so jumped off a bridge would you do it too?" In this particular situation.

I have done it before as well, and it was not cool for one day. I would not recommend it for a day let alone a month. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.

I don't think he intends to run a bed cage with stock leafs for any greater period of time than it takes him to get everything fab'd up and installed.

    ---

OP, you're going to have to weld the new shock mounts on the axle to mount shocks from the bed cage to the axle. Just make sure you do that in a manner that is going to work with whatever SUA kit and bumpstops you go with.

If you’re making a cage don’t do it until you install your kit and bump out / cycle your springs. If you’re installing a prefabbed cage of course you can install it any time since they make them with specific installation instructions where you locate it based on frame and bed positions.
