Is there one available for an '02 stepside taco? I have looked on several sites and haven't found one unless the "regular size" fits on the stepside.

Good question... I've been wondering the same thing. But I don't think the regular one will fit a step-side though. I haven't seen any for the step-side anywhere. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places...

Went to the dealer here and the parts guy musta been a noob. Said he didn't even know there was a stepside Taco. Looked in the Toyota book and found nothing. The search continues...

Lots of people didn't know Toyota made one. And others have never seen one...

the stepside are cool looking, no the bed extender is too wide to fit your trucks.... also see if you have a way of modifying your tailgate so it cant be removed easy (switch to all star screws etc.) since the stepside is rare the tailgate is a very commonly stolen item on them

yeah easy to snatch...no serial numbers...and one of the most commonly needed parts (how many trucks you see have dented tailgate) wether it be from having it down and backing into a tree/pole/whatever or just general dents tailgates are like #2 on the most stolen list for late model trucks coming in right behind...... wheels I believe last year stereo's seem to be on the down side anymore since they are now linked with security systems and require codes to work etc..

The bed extender will adjust quite a bit more narrow, and I think it would work if one used the aftermarket style pivots/latches as the add on bracket that piggybacks the factory tiedown is not in the correct place. Most trucks use the screw/rivet on latches. but Toyota used the no drill style. Just looked, and ~9" can be taken out of the center tubes alone. and ~2.5-3" can be taken out of the curved tubes before the bend would interfere. Toyota sold so few stepsides, that they prob did not want to engineer a no drill kit for the stepsides, and did not want dealer techs using new trucks as guinea pigs. Someone post some close up shots of the striker area of the tailgate. As long as there is a small flat area directly inside the tailgate area that is exposed when tailgate is closed, the universal latch kits supplied by Amp Research will do. I do remember some years of the Tacoma's and the 1st series Tundra's ; the boxed in area or the stake pockets turned 45º versus 90º, so the bracket may not mount correctly, but a modded Tacoma or Tundra bracket may be a workable solution. I have never seen a stepside Tacoma from any closer than 25-30', so if someone can post a pic or two, I would like to see one.
