I know my truck. But I know jack about Bed Racks. I've done a little searching. But Where do they mount to? Do you need a Cross bars or anything else for an RTT? Are Tepai and CVT the only two Companies the make RTT's? Thanks as always

Most bed racks mount to the factory bed rails and sit on the bedsides

Just a bed rack will do for a RTT

    No ARB, Frontrunner, Camco
CVT and Tepui are just more popular most likely due to better quality

Thank you. The other kinds of bed racks come with mounts for other stuff correct?

Correct. If you just want to mount a tent or a cargo rack, a couple bed bars will do

ok How high does it need to be? I've seen racks that extend over the Cab. and I've seen racks the just cover the Bed and just about everything in the middle and Who makes some of the better and some of the cheaper racks? Notice I didn't say best.

I'm also looking to mount it flush with my cab. Would that be even possible? My RTT I mean

It all depends on your desires and needs in relationship to budget. Starting with your desired height... When you say "flush" this is vague... Do you mean that the top of the tent is level with the top of your cab roof? Or is the bottom of the tent level with a roof rack? In any case...

If your rack is high and more or less flush with the top of your cab than you can fit more underneath it. Other people like it high up so that when the tent is unfolded they still can walk underneath it without hitting their heads. Us short people dont need to worry about this so much. There are plenty of other reasons to keep it mounted high up as well. On the other hand, some people prefer to have their tent mounted lower for numerous reasons (looks, aerodynamics, fitting in a garage/under branches, etc.) There is no right or wrong way, just preference. Then when it comes to design... Some people want a basic and/or cheap set up. Two bed bars are usually inexpensive and are often enough to hold a tent but you're limited in terms of items you can mount to it. The beauty being, easy install, basic set up, more affordable, lower height profile, and less complication. Some people want more extensive systems that are adaptable and allow for more flexibility. Of course, these tend to be more expensive, taller, more complicated, and more cumbersome in certain ways. In terms of manufacturers... do some research and look at some build pages. There are all kinds of big-brand bed racks, simple bed bars, custom projects, TW member fabricators, and homemade alternatives...

Check out these threads... there is more than enough information there to get your questions answered.

It that case you are looking for some bed bars... Just like sliders, bed bars are made by lots of different manufacturers and fabricators, each kind having advantages and disadvantages, style and looks, but all of em are pretty much the same sort of thing.

I have my tent mounted on AllPro bed bars and it sits just about flush with the roof of the cab. There's still plenty of space under it for storage.

I googled Bed Bars and came up with Light racks, Roll bars, and anything but what I needed. Could you maybe give a list of manufacturers?

Here's my tent on flat bed rail bars. I like it low for the trail, but couldn't put enough stuff under it.

    image.jpg

Here it is on my new 7"ish rise bars. Much better for putting gear under it.

    image.jpg

Sits a bit too low to get the rod in the front window flap on the passenger side though. But, I don't want it any higher folded up on the trail...
