After searching through various bed rack mounts that “work with tonneau covers” I decided to go with a custom solution. I have the BACKFlip MX4 tonneau cover. This cover has several rubber seals the length of the bed and the OEM bed rails are relocated by the tonneau cover mounting brackets.

I reached out to several bed rack suppliers and explained my dilemma. All but 1 supplier shot me down. Although I did not decide to go with Archive Garage I would like to thank Eric for his willingness to support me! Check out what Archive Garage has to offer!

Ultimately I ended up purchasing a custom installation package from Yakima. I will list the parts purchased to complete this project. I believe this solution just the truck a nice finished, semi stock look while maintaining the full functionality of the MX4. The Skyline towers are very easy to remove from the Landing Pads. I did have to drill through the metal fenders and composite bed to install this system.

    Parts used:
    4 Skyline Towers
    54" Tracks
4 Landing Pads (qty 2 of what the link shows)
2 Core Bars (Size: Medium or 60")
4 Lock Cores (qty 2 of what the link shows) (lock the Skyline Towers to the Landing Pads)

    Tools used:
    1/16" drill bit
    1/4" drill bit
    Allan wrench set
    Paint pen
    6 pack of beer

    Worthy of note:
I needed to remove the rear fender flares & wheel well liners to drill out extra clearance in the composite bed lip just under the metal fender. I broke several of the blue, orange and black plastic clips in doing so. The Toyota dealer near me wanted $4-$14 per clip! I found these clips on eBay for much less and I can happily report that they worked perfectly.
    Orange fender clips
    Blue fender clips
    9mm Fender Liner Screw Grommets

I was thinking of doing to exact same rack, but mounting direct to the MX4.
positioning the rear bar in such a way the rear could be flipped open if need be, mainly for ski racks in the winter

I have a backflip G2 and I can't see how the voodoo would work with that type of cover. I'm looking more into the Yakima option. More pricey but will work with no issues.

Not sure if anyone is still looking to do this, but moosejaw.com has all of the needed items less the landing pads and if you use th code HOTDOG at checkout you can get 20% off each item if you order it one and a time and save like 40$ per item.. just an FYI.. I ordered each item separate and got free shipping and saved a bunch of $..
