I see where you are going. I would definately buy a couple just to have more options.. I would suggest fabing a pair so everyone could get a picture of it. I dont think that you would have a problem selling them..

they are used in a "strut" system pretty much an 1 5/8" by 1 5/8" c channel with the lips rolled in. the spring nut sits against the lip, and the spring pushes against the back of the channel. It is used in industrial applications. I'm an electrician, I work on gasplants, and everything is mounted on this stuff. It is super easy and quick to use, and it is solid if installed properly.

There are a crapload of different brackets and fittings you can use.

YA YA YA! Gotcha! See my last post. These are only 1 /58" x 1 5/8" best I can tell, correct? Does anyone know what the ID dimensions of our bed rail is? MNUELS, is your last pic a mod added to your OEM rail?

Fire931 started this thread with a great idea and offer.....not trying to steal his show, just thinking maybe there might be "off the shelf" hardware that will work?

no it's one on a nissan titan, bu it's the same idea, the taco one is just a bit smaller I'd have to shave off a 1/4" or so. exactly this is an off the shelf item that will do the job perfectly. I definitly won't be selling them, but you can pick a few of them up for 4 or 5 bucks at an electrical store. with a little modification, it'll fit perfectly. I'm gonna do a few tommorow to show, maybe a diy.

OKLEEDOKLEE. I measured the bed rail as carefully as I could. The WIDTH of the inside rail is 7/16" from back to the bent in crimps (I would be closer to 1/2", but there are phillips screws that fix the rail to the bed that extend out a tad). The HEIGHT of the rail inside opening is almost exactly 1".

MNEULS, I did find on one of the sites listed above that has a Unistrut Spring Nut that had less WIDTH (or DEPTH) than others.......perhaps the nuts could be inserted sideways from looking at your pics above? The groves wouldn't line up, but torque on the piece would render that not entirely necessary?

ok, I found one in my tool bag. It doesn't fit sideways, it is just a little bit too small, and it is much to large to fit properly. It does fit, unmodified in the spot where the rail is bolted in, because there is a hole on the top and bottom of the strut. I will be making a smaller one tomorrow anyways though. here are some pics.

They work!! I'll post pics tomorrow night, I'm in the middle of a satoshi, and I'm kind of busy, and I forgot my camera at the shop. I made 2 while I was waiting for fiberglass to set. It took about 20 min to make them, I just used a bench grinder to grind them shorter, and ground the same curve they had back on them so they can be inserted then spun without having to slide them in from the end. I'm not sure of the cost of these things, I get them for free from work, But I'm pretty sure they are just over a buck each.

On one of the Tacoma forums a while back, I read that someone replaced the 3 bed rail mounts with unistrut. He then had a variety of attachments to choose from.

ok, here ya go, the pics I promised. The nuts fit in perfectly, and give, in this case a 1/4" by 20 threaded hole.

It looks like you only had to grind down the ends...so the height was OK? What size are these unistruts?

an standard unistrut is 1 5/8" from outside to outside, the springnuts are just over 1 3/8" the ends need to be ground down, so the length is around 7/8" to 1"ish
