Very valid point. But I'm hoping they get put on notice, and don't just ride the surge.

Haha! Considering that the design dates from 2005, the only real cost is production. In that, the door and knobs are pennies. It's the box made out of the same material as the bed that is a driver as well as labor. On the economy of scale, $10 or so? But, it was once said that an additional $1/car spent on interior materials could be felt by the buyer.

All that I really know is that the grunts that I met who worked in the auto industry didn't like it any more than the grunts in the aerospace industry. The lesson here is to not let your kids be engineers. :D

    I don't have P or T, just a base TRD OR. I've got auto up/down both fronts. I'm assuming it's a TRD/Limited thing.

Very true. That said, Ford is the only real threat, except they made it very clear that they are phoning it in for now. While I generally have no issue for global platforms and really lust over a few like the Aussy Falcon and real station wagons, the new Ranger is milquetoast compared to what they actually sell in other markets. One engine, one transmission, and no Raptor with just about everything but total engine output comparable to the very first 3rd Gens.

I see it a bit different my friend.

I see it that they hate us so much, that the hate is seasonal. The grill squeak - intentional cold weather hate engineering. Warming the car up - Toyota hatefully making us waste time. 4WD exercising? Everyone hates any type of exercise and Toyota knows it and hatefully makes us exercise the fucking truck.

I guarantee you this - the new Gladiator and Ranger will have no noises. No squeaks. You won't have to take your 4WD system to a pilates class and you bet your sweet patootie that their engines won't need to be warmed up.

    Fucking stupid Toyota.

You don't even need the mount for a GoPro. You can just buy the Handlebar mount that GoPro makes any attach that to the rearview mirror where it attaches to the mount, at least you can on a 2nd Gen, not sure how the 3rd gen mirror mounts but I would think it would be the same.

Hahaha! True. A lot of folks love what they bought and a lot have to bitch and moan to feel good or bad about it all.

They won't as far as TW is concerned. I foresee those forums being an even bigger dumpster fire.

Exactly! There is certainly waste, but also I believe it was said that all of engineering was 3% of production cost where manufacturing and materials was 60% or more? I am not certain about that last figure, but it is definitely an order of magnitude.

Now, the effects of (bad) engineering on production . . . U-ge.

Probably also dependent on the product. I used to work for a company that made hydraulic fittings. We spent several million dollars on a product to engineer and develop a means to manufacture, then we sold them for like 50 bucks per...

A good example of admin waste though, that I certainly loved was we had a daily production report I had to publish every morning. Took me like 2 solid hours of bust my ass to get out on time. After our kaizen lead called me out "there is no way anybody looks at all 100 tabs of this..." , we decided to just not publish 98 of the 100 and see who balked. Ended up reducing the tab count to 6 because most of the department leads didn't have to or need to answer for their numbers on the daily. Getting an hour and a half of my day back was certainly nice too.

Definitely. I should have said that I was talking about large aircraft. Since, I've worked at small companies where staff is almost all of the cost, but there, lean strategies would end up adding costs for a long time.

That is harsh and a great result though. At other places, we certainly saw improvements but it would have been done more easily if management listened to the grunts for half a second.

Not to harp on your 18’s and 19’s, but we knew that was going to happen for all the nanny safety devices they are putting on those newer models. I mean , lane departure and collision avoidance on a 4wd truck touted as offroad ready? I’m glad I got under the wire with a ‘17, but even that is a princess compared with my 2002. I was never scared of bunnies and woodrats stranding me in the backcountry with that truck, and going through water that’s over the hubs? Forget it!
