I crawl malls and shopping centers all week long I need to find a used cubby fast as I already started filling my cab storage bins fast.

Most likely because Toyota used the most crappy and flimsy sheet metal inner latch to keep them closed. They work themselves open and get lost.

I store my hitch & ball in the bed driver side on the 2009. A little bouncing from the hitch against the door and the force just bends the latch until the door rattles open and the hitch winds up bouncing in the bed.

The double cab under-seat storage uses the same junk, and they are mangled also from continuous use.

Made new latches from 1/8" Al. Two roll pins straddle the knob web in place of the original comb fingers. Im thinking about anodizing them next.

You would still need the hardware on the window motors to make it work.

You need the sensors on the windows to let it know when they are all the way down or up. Or if a arm is out the window while trying to close it. Otherwise it won't know when to shut off.

    Got it,
i knew it was probably a long shot that it would be as simple as changing the switch to get express up and down.

If it was that easy. I would have done it a long time ago. C'mon Toyota, cheaper model Toyotas have this feature.

I have my compressor hose stored inside my driver side storage and I installed a lock to add a teeny amount of security.
Did they eliminate the passenger side one too? I keep trail trash bags and a first aid kit in that one.

Hi all! 1st, y'all are the best, I love how i can find info about anything on this site!

Now, any luck finding these storage compartments cheaper than ordering OEM?
Here are pics of my '19 with the cutouts in my bedrug.. first they removed the front ones i had in my 2009, now the big one when I went from 2014 to 2019 !!!

And now a new challenge!! ..... Any ideas on adding a water tank in the spot where the big compartment is??!! {driverside, rear} ??!
Going to be in the desert for a while, and the kids drink a lot!!

Depending on how much water you’re talking, you might want to consider if this plan will contribute to the “Taco lean” many try to avoid. The truck already has gas tank on the driver side and you in driver seat.

I seriously considered adding a driver side cubby to my 2021.(Maybe by raiding a junkyard?) Anyway, after a few months' experience with the truck, I've thought better of it. It's hard enough trying to seal the leaks from the passenger side cubby. Having a driver side cubby would just double the problem. I'm actually glad Toyota eliminated this.

How do you deal with the area up high near the bed rails on the driver side? At one point I thought I had sealed the bed pretty good, but had tons of junk leak into the bed from up high . I’ve since given up the goal of sealing the bed lol.

I want to use mine more but since they can’t be locked there’s no way I’m leaving anything valuable in them like tow straps or anything like that. Where I live people will steal your crap so fast if it isn’t locked up and out of sight. Should have made them lockable with the key.

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
I keep cheap tie down straps in mine. If someone needs them bad enough to steal them, be my guest. I'd rather they just take them than do damage to the vehicle trying to break into a locked cubby.

Those leaks actually come from water splashed up from the road, due to the open nature of the outer fenders. Before I had my camper shell put on, I pulled the bed caps off and put lots of silicone sealant underneath them. Since it's not feasible to seal all the holes at the top of the fenders (since the caps clip into the holes), I put the beads of sealant inboard of the holes. The other thing I did was install the OEM rubber plugs (that come with factory tonneau covers) at the front corners of the bed. So far, the only leakage problem that I've had has come from the passenger side cubby. I think I've finally dealt with that, using Mike Williams' caps.
