Bed Stiffeners - What do they do? Do I need them?

Will this work with OEM bed extender?

 

I don't recall ever seeing or hearing of anyone trying it but I can't imagine it would work with that. Sorry!

 

See the previous page. Someone managed to make it work, but you can no longer flip it around to the bed in the non-extended position.

The bed stiffeners saved me from a potential ticket in the dunes (Sand Hollow Park, Utah). I was super lucky to have a mounting spot for a whip!



Bonus shot of the arp hardware I added to the bed stiffeners. I did it for no reason, other than that it looks sweet lol.

No we don't. The structural integrity of the 1st Gens is much better than the 05+ models.

 

Being that these at least look symmetrical, could they be swapped across so that the tie down loops are on the tailgate side?

 

The install holes wouldn't line up properly.

 

Do 2020+ models still benefit from stiffeners under bed load (i.e. toppers, heavy off road use, etc)? I pull trailers occasionally, loaded around 3000-4000lbs. Likely will be pulling a boat around 5000 max. Are bed stiffeners helpful under simple heavy towing?

 

Under towing it shouldn't matter as much because you aren't stressing the bedsides. If you're using a bed topper or heavy off road use then it will be beneficial. Even if you don't have those and are just towing some people like having the extra mounting points for tying down items in the bed.

Some work and some don't. As many as there are out there we can't test fit them all to see if they clear.
