    Hi all!

I’m local to Virginia and I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendation on beginner trails. I have no problem driving out further. My Tacoma is stock so I just want a good dirt trail to start my off roading experience while I build my finances for recovery equipment, better suspension and a front recovery bumper. I would love it to be near water so my dog can dip her paws in.

I do have the off x road app but looking to get recommendations from you guys.

    thanks!

Flagpole Knob seems to be the go-to spot in VA. There are various routes, with Union Springs being the most technical.

Peters Mill is also a good starter trail. But if you're looking for water, one of the routes to Flagpole Knob will take you past Swinson Lake.

Head to Route 33 and drive west of Harrisonburg. Turn right at Peak Mountian Road. Turn left at the church. There are some FS roads in various stages of maintenance in the area. You can take the 74 road, which will dump you on Fulks Run on 259. Or, head the other way and listen to the sound of banjos. You will see some weird keep-out signs. You can also hit Flagpole Knob off 33, which is further west.

Check it out on google maps.

Peters Mill is boring as hell. It's slow and rocky. It's not a good time. Then you have to deal with the side-by-sides and dirt bikes.

Or head to Hatters and ride on the beach. You will need a permit which is 50 dollars for ten days. Make sure you understand about airing down to at least 15 PSI.
