    Toyota put a new belt on Tuesday and haven't heard the squeal since then so hopefully it's gone for good.

    There is no "tight as I can get it" here. There is a proper torque spec. Crank shaft pulley bolt torque is 192ft lbs per my manual. Get the proper tools, and get it right. Not meaning to come off a a jerk, but half assing isn't helping you.

    Yup. Or under torquing it. See above.

    I would let the pros handle it by now but that just me.

    You don't want to spend $80 for the "proper" tool? How much have you spent on replacement belts?

    You can always rent the proper tools at pepboys, autozone, kragen for a few bucks.

    I bet your harmonic balancer isn't tourqued propely. There is a specific pattern and ft lb you have to apply to ensure it is installed correctly and balanced. I had to reinstall a Fluidampr because I messed it up the first go around. New ARP balancer bolts, proper tourque specs and all was well. Harmonic balancer bolts ARE tourque to yeild. One time use. Did you replace the bolts or re use the old ones? Since you didn't have a tourque wrench I don't guess it really matters anyway, if you overtightened them they are toast. Get some new bolts, borrow a tourque wrench from Advanced Auto or whichever big box parts house loans tools in your area and try again.

    Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
    Or ask a neighbor or co-worker. I'm by no means a gear head but I have at least 3 torque wrenches in my garage. I'd gladly help someone who asked.

    Because I NEEDED new belts.. You don't replace a part, and throw the old belt back on. I started with new belts every time I did something different. If i can make a tool, just like the majority of people here have done,, then why buy one.. I cant make a belt. There is more to this story than me just replacing the belt.. pay better attention next time

    If you're serious about doing your own work on your rig why not just go buy a $20 torque wrench from Harbor Freight? Then you have it for the myriad of things that require it on your truck. I guess I just don't understand playing games and trying to jimmy rig everything.

    I just didn't have one that big, yet And I'm not jimmy rigging anything. And it doesn't do me much good, if I cant hold the crank without shearing off bolts in it

    Weird. Usually they have 4. Crazy old Toyota. With just one I would imagine the proper tools are more important than ever. Good luck!

    Yeah its just one big bolt, like 22 mm that screws right into the end of the crank, with a washer. Balancer just slides all the way on, and you thread the bolt and tighten it up. No pressing or anything needed. Its just irritating, because at 60k I shouldn't be having to do any of this. Never had to on other vehicles that ive been working on for 15 years now. never had any issues like this, Replaced engines, Heads, rearends, transmissions, Front ends, Suspension. etc.. Its always a learning process working on anything new, But its not like I just don't have a clue what I'm doing, but when you go to a mechanic who actually does it for a living, and they don't know what they are talking about, and then try to charge you for it.. You quit taking it to em. Just never ran in to an issue like this before that seems so simple, so its just got me baffled and a little frustrated to say the least. and it is probably something simple. That's why I try one thing, and replace the belt. Try another thing and replace the belt. etc.

    @Lthompson

    Just an idea, could it be the reman or aftermarket balancer? Do you have the old one? Was it worn? Just wondering if you may have gotten a faulty part. If possible maybe try installing the old one with a new bolt and torque it properly.

    old one had a wobble.. That's where I started with this whole thing. it had a pretty good wobble, took it off and this is what I found. Whole shaft was cracked, and chunks of rubber missing. It was at the dealer bout 7 months prior to this getting the front seal replaced... Then when I noticed the wobble, they wanted 550 to replace it, I said heck with that.. Then I found this... Pretty sure they messed it up somehow. But i replaced it with a dorman.. Which i currently am replacing again with an OEM. Making a better crank tool also.
